Tapping stock downpipe for wideband

Since im not getting the full exhaust for a few months yet

Quick question, What material is this made of?

Steel or Aluminum?

just take it down to any muffler shop and have them weld it in. They did mine for free and they just torched a hole dont bother drilling.

As an aside...

Who uses aluminum for exhaust components? Its not really good for much in the exhaust system. Hell, I keep melting steel flex pipes, aluminum would stand no chance.

I wouldnt do that! When you torch a hole in the downpipe, fragments or dripage of the metal remain in the pipe, when you weld the O2 bung in, and then install the sensor, those fragments can distrupte the flow of the exhaust gas over the head of the sensor and possibably providing incorrect a/f ratios. Have the exhaust shop drill the hole out then have them tack the O2 bung and then connect via a weld so that no fragments of dripage leak down into the pipe causing the sensor not to read correctly.

Just drilled mine in using a tappered bit and then welded the bung on. It's steel.

Dude first of i had the downpipe off the car and second i cleaned it out before i put it back on!!!!!
