If that break is confined to the same area as RavenSS' engine then it is quite possible the JBP sleeves will actually take care of your problem with the block. That doesn't actually save you money as the install + sleeves are as expensive as a used engine, BUT you will have a much stronger cylinder wall should you have a similar occurance.
mine turned out being just the intake manifold gasket.....but none the less i have a friend taking the engine off my hands and parting out the cobalt...this isnt something i want to do anymore..i have a civic now and i am completely happy with it(even more than the day i bought the cobalt) so im focused on building that and having fun with something i know

thats not valve contact. thats detonation to an extreme.

i doubt there is anything left of the spark plug.

as for needing a new engine, head is destroyed from the piece of cylinder wall being pounded into the head, hence all the dents in the piston. that's not detonation, that's destruction.
Trust me he was not getting any KR and was at a safe 11.4:1 afr and maybe 18 degrees of timing.

I've e-mailed Darton about sleeves and they said they're only for the 2.2 engine, but they're looking into the LSJ. I don't know enough to say what the difference is between the 2.2 and 2.0, but I didn't think there were that many.

I'd say the block is done as well. I have a smaller crack in the same spot in cyl 4, and JBP said it was unusable. I'm picking up a new block later this month, and I'll be having JBP install the new sleeves in there to add a little strength.

same thing happened to me. A nice little boost spike due to the boost controller. Which controller did you use?

Same **** happned to mine when he wastegate line broke. Thankfully the motor broke up horribly once it it 30psi (I'm running a much larger turbo = more air lol) but I swore I blew it up when I saw the gauge hit 30.

Sorry, that was a brain fart on my part as it was NGalaxyTimmyo that I was referring to. As I see he also posted in this thread and it seems like the block is toast.

Oh yea my block is toast. I already have another engine on the way though. I should be picking it up within the next 2 weeks. $1800 for a full engine, supercharged and intake manifold with 24k miles on it. I don't think thats too bad. Then I'll have quite a few extra parts just in case.

First thing I'm gonna get. The JBP sleeves. I do not want this happening again....
