timing chain tensioner

So I am currently in my garage trying to do my timing chain tensioner. I can not get the old one off and I'm starting to get a little angry, anyone have any tips? would it be possible to get at from under the car?

tried using a cheater bar, still can't get it. anyone have any more tips?

also, the reason I am doing this is a knocking sound occasionally at idle. if it were the supercharger coupler it would be constant right?

Spray it thoroughly with WD-40, go grab lunch, then try again.

Negative. It should be totally do-able from above. I used a 32mm socket, a 1/2" socket joint, and a breaker bar. 1/2" joint was to get a better angle on it since the bar didnt quite fit in that small space. Just FYI mine also put up a fight. WD-40 seemed to soften it up for me.

I still can't get this thing off. From what I've heard, it should be pretty easy, however my level of swearing begs to differ. any more ideas?

1/2 ratchet on a shallow 32mm has always worked for me. Swap it for a breaker bar and a pipe if needed.

Hell, i've pulled them with a big wrench, before I realized I had the right size socket.

I am using a shallow 32mm 12 point socket and a half inch ratchet. I have another ratchet that bends but it usually comes off the bolt when I try to use my cheater pipe. any way to get more room?

Have a big wrench? I used a 1 1/4" with another wrench on the end of it once, until I started using the socket. Try hitting the wrench with a hammer or something, it's an o-ring style washer on the tensioner, the shock will help it loosen up. Can also tap the end of the tensioner itself, but you probably won't have room to do that with the engine in the car.

yes thats exactly the problem, not enough room. I may have a 1 1/4 inch wrench I can try though.

Alright so I managed to get the old one out using what felt like a 55 gallon drum of liquid wrench on the tensioner. I am getting ready to put the old one in, but want to make sure I have a complete understanding. The pin doesn't have to be set in a certain way does it? I just screw this in right?
