timing chain tensioner & crank pully

so i got my timing chain tensioner replaced and my car was still making the same noise so i went to start pulling the front cover off and found that my crank pulley was not only dry rotted but coming apart. it fell into two pieces when i got it off. it made a pretty good mark on the front cover but nothing too bad. so for all of you who have changed you tensioner with no luck check the crank pulley it sounds just like the tensioner is going out

good info but you should have posted that in your original thread and it is not a crank pulley it is a crank dampener

i should have sorry guys about he double posting and yes i know its a "crank dampener" or technicaly a harmonic balancer that doubles as a pulley but its all the same. just thought id share a little info as i i have read many post on here where the tensioner did not fix the rattle and my balancer sounded just like the tensioner going bad. i even had a buddy who is a chevy dealer tech say that it was the tensioner.
