I went to 30 ft/lbs with blue threadlocker. Instructions say 15 ft/lbs, but that aint much especially for the vibration they are subjected to.

I don't know how you did that especially since they are torque to yield bolts and will snap pretty much after 18ft.lbs.

Chipmonk, no problem. Why was there water in the manifold?

I've overtorqued bolts many times more than factory specs have said to either cause torque wrench was off or I wanted them tighter.

I bet I could easily have torqued them to 50 and not had them snap either.

I used a 4 foot breaker bar to try and remove my blue stage 2 security bolts the tech used red loctite on which was easily 200 ft lbs with that 4 foot breaker bar and those bolts didnt snap. A red loctited takes 395 ft lbs to remove without applying torch heat to them.

just because you can doesn't mean you should.......I'm pretty sure the engineers decided on that specification for a reason, not cause they like the number

Most torque wrenches wont even read properly below 20 ft lbs anyway, so its a crap shoot even if you are using a torque wrench unless its a very expensive one. I just went to the max for a grade 12+ bolt.

15 ft lbs if someone actually got that accurate of a reading is probably just fine, but I know a couple peoples who's bolts loosened up. I sure would use blue threadlocker with whatever torque was used.

M8x1.25x13 bolts are rated at 17 ft lbs for grade 8.8 bolts, 24 ft lbs for grade 10.8 and 29 ft lbs for grade 12.9 bolts.

To each his own, but there is a reason I had to buy some new ones since I managed to brake two without a torque wrench. On the under 20ft.lbs. comment, that is why they make in.lb. torque wrenches! I have a nice Craftsman one that is used every time something requires under 20ft.lbs. torque. It was well worth the investment of $75 since I broke 3 very important and expensive bolts before it.

Thats ok, go find the metric bolt size torque chart and see what the "correct" torque spec is for these bolts instead of believing GM's instructions. There isnt a GM tech around that is gonna torque them to only 15 ft lbs per those instructions.

Not really trying to debate the issue here but only 15 ft lbs and no threadlocker according to instructions on bolts that are subjected to 7000 rpm vibrations frequently is ridiculous.

actually I'm a GM Tech, and I installed my supercharger bolts to spec.....and I have yet to have any problems. I mean if that's how you do it, more power to ya....but I'd hate to have some people come here to try and learn how to do something and read your post and then do as you say and wonder why they snapped the bolts
