huh?
its limited to low 140s with stock power....
what makes you think adding 40+ hp isnt gonna change that?
drag limited doesnt mean that its impossible to go past that speed.

Drag limited means that with current power.....the drag caused by the car reaches equilibrium at said speed.

change the drag, or change the power....and that equilibrium point moves.

Nope.

MustangThief is referring to stock Top Speed.

Not St. 2 Top Speed ....

And 40 HP is going to give you an extra 10 MPH onto top end? Doubtful.

Even mustangs running 700 RWHP are still hitting a wall at 170 or so.

Look around, do some research.

Even so, with his S2 kit, and having a (for sake of argument) top end of 150. Are you realizing how long it would take him to get to 150? I'd venture to say I'd be worrying about damaging the motor keeping it in the 130's 140's for so long while you even try to hit 150.

But regardless, I was referring to a stock SS in my original post.

show me a car that gets to its drag limited speed quickly.

EVERY car gets to drag limited speed slowly my friend. its a function of the physics.
As the maximum propel force reaches the resisting forces of friction and drag, acceleration slows down.

I agree with your comment on stock power.
but i was commenting on your post saying that power doesnt matter....

specifically:

You would have to change the aerodynamics of the vehicle to achieve that, you can add all the stages you want, not gonna change. You can even do a stage 2 with purple gumdrops but you still won't hit 150.

Referring to the stage kits, not just adding power.

To my understanding of the S2 package for SS, it gives around 30-40 hp gains? To me, on a stock set up vehicle, this would not be enough to push it to 150 MPH unless it had a wicked tail wind or had other favorable conditions.

It just seemed odd to me, that someone would say they generally RACE to 150. Why race to your complete top end? Is this a "who's ahead after two minutes of flooring it" race?

im not a good person to comment on that kind of thing hehe.
I say take it to the track.
thats where it belongs

I dont have time to do something like work out the power required to gain 5-10mph,
theres alot of variables and i have to go to work.

I personally would think that a S2 cobalt with full boltons should be pretty close to 150mph
if not a touch over.

LOL that is funny. But as far as a stage two modded ss/sc with a cooling mod and exhuast can most certainly go 150.

Our cars aren't overweight pigs like the terminator's are. Our cars should hit 150 easily with S2

It is? Is that why the C6 weighs in at 3150lbs for the coupe?

I respect the terminator's but ford could have done so much better with them.

Actually it's 3250.

The Z06 weights 3150.

And it's not a 2-seater either...

My car weighed in at 3710, with spare tire and jack, dead weight...

Also, are you taking into account the price tag?

Ford did what they could while selling a car with a 36k price tag...

We can knock marbles all day about my car, but it doesn't bother me. The terminator is respected because of what Ford DID do with them, not because of what they still could have done.

C6 Coupe = 3179
C6 Z06 = 3132

Straight from chevrolet's website. I'm not going to argue about the terminator. Aslong as you enjoy it.

Basically..

Honestly I've only had my car to 130. It got there fast a **** but...

if a race isn't over by 130, then you have way too much to prove, or you're losing.

i agree that probally why he blew up sitting at such high rpm for so long to get to 150 is dumb and not to mention street racing is stupid enough but to 150 one twitch your dead

Well a long while ago when I still didn't have enough tickets to make me be a good little boy, I had my car pass the 160 mark on the speedometer in the Cobalt and I hit 173 with HPT scanning. Soooo whoever says they can't hit this speed, I'd say you must not have a very well tuned baltl, btw this was in 5th and after 160 it creeped slowly but it did it, No drag from wing FTW. Peace.
