twin charging question

Yes i know that zzp has said time and time again they are against someone trying this on their own. on the other hand does anyone have any info they have found on bypassing the sc at a certain rpm. is this pcm controlled or is their a controlling device added. I am attending wyotech and am in high performance right now and my instructors dont have much experience with the lsj/lnf platform. If any info you have please post, i will find it informing.

You can limit the s/c boost via the pcm or using a boost controller.

I went to wyotech as well in blairsville. Yes you can control the bypass valve through the pcm using hptuners. You control it as % from 4000 rpm and up. I believe zzp does offer a boost controller but I think it limits boost all the time.

You'd be better off not even messing around with twincharging you can make more power earier and more efficiently by just going turbo. There's a reason ZZP quit the twincharge and just went to turbo only. If you're worried about lag just go with a little smaller turbo.

Flows better, less heat, and less loss from spinning the blower just for a few. Seems like there are alot of people with turbo only making the same power as twincharged people with a smaller turbo. Dont get me wrong twincharged motors are very rare and Im guessing a blast to drive but turbo only is more simple with just as good results.

Thts wht i was thinking tht they had a tune for it. and the reason im doing this is not just power im doing it becuase its, as you said rare. I also feel this will put me at the power level I want to be at and be happy with it as a DD. on the other hand I do feel twincharging requires alot of research which i have done except for the bypass valve which im disscussing with all of you. I looked and the turbo map for a to4e and it was perfectly in the sweet spot from 10 to 22 psi. now if i will be twincharging and since the sc is being bypassed at the start of the tc what boost would i want the 17 psi or less

well I talked to zzp about it and they said that it is actually LESS heat because of the dual intercooling.. plus its the best of both worlds no shitty lag but still a possiblility of big power with the turbo.

That was their fight points but you still get the heat after the fmic from the supercharger so is it really dual cooling?

A bigger turbo doesnt necessarily mean more power if it doesnt flow more. If you read on their turbo only page they now admit that it has more potential because it flows a great deal more with a different intake manifold.

this is true for peak numbers. Given they have a 400+ whp twincharged car, i dont think anyone on this board will be saying "it isnt enough", so your point is effectively irrelevant. It is relevant to ZZP because they are going for records here.

and i dont see what you're saying about the dual cooling. Yes its dual cooling. Once through a front mount then again through laminovas...

The lag from the turbo would help you with traction off the line. As soon as the tires start to bite the boost comes on which makes the car easier to launch in my opinion.

what about when you are actually putting down power.... as soon as the turbo spools you will spin making it impossible to launch. have you ever seen a 400+whp srt4 try to launch... its all tire spin unless its at a track with damn good DR's or slicks

not everyone limits themselves to the 1320, and everyone knows linear power is much easier to control

Twin charging can't be done by anyone properly, save for the most advanced of techs.

The Eaton bypass valve isn't meant to see boost on the top side. It begins leaking a little over 10 psi and will fail as things go higher. This isn't always picked up and people run into problems they don't know they are experiencing. They just believe it's a 'tuning issue' or that twin charging isn't working well.

So there's a lot of people trying to do this kit on their own or adjusting our kit differently from how it's setup and this causes problems. Rather than keeping on fighting the battle and having a kit with a high 'problem' rate caused by adjustments out of our control, we've decided to move into something with a higher margin of safety and something better understood by the end user.

-Feel free to quote above if people ask in the future.

I dont suppose you'd like to share your solution to said problem? I'm curious how you guys got around this. If you'd rather keep it a trade secret, by all means I understand

He just means that they are going to be pushing their straight turbo kits much harder. So disregard all the great things they have said about twincharging in the past.

ZZP used to use a separate boost controller for the SC. But everyone would mess with it and screw things up. Now they by pass the SC using HPTs.

well that said if I was competent enough not to screw with the SC BC and leave it at the recommended setting with a tune this is plausable of performing with the right selected items. I mean If there were no benefits to this setup then I would not be reaserching this subject.

We're still selling it, so if someone understands what they are getting into, we have them available.

you limit the operating range of the BBV to a range between 5-10 psi (top and bottom)
