Update: victory_red_SS project

Okay so this is the latest news from JBP on my engine.
They are very impressed with many aspects of the LSJ. GM chose to copy many things from the small block Chevys. Our 4 bolt mains, the design of the pistons and the rods are just a few they mentioned plus the fact that good companies produced the parts.
The engine is now torn apart and the process of documenting, protographing and filming each step is being done pain stakingly. Obviously this all slows down the process considerably but considering that this is new territory outside of GM (remember the Cobalts making big power are mostly, if not all, 2.2's not 2.0's) this is time well spent and benificial to those who choose to do something similar at a later date.
JBP has also be doing some of the designing of future products, by taking advantage of having the engine on the stand for measurements, such as a header for our cars.
The valve cover, spark plug cover (for lack of a better name) and supercharger are all in the process of being polished. There were hopes of doing more of the engine but the engine itself has to many delicate areas to attempt that.
The design of the pistons (oem) has intrigued Mev & co. to the point of wondering GM's reasoning for them and whether a special design needs to be incorporated into the head to match the Diamond pistons.
Because there is a 4 bolt main they are working with ARP to come up with special studs to replace the GM main bolts. Because I am going to be twincharging the engine JBP is over-building everything to be able to withstand the much higher boost. At this point Mev believes the engine will be capable of going to about 650-700hp when done. (I am not saying that is where I will take it)
The cams have been mathematically calculated and ready to be done. The cylinders will have the new sleeves put in before long.
I have chosen to try the Full Coil Over Assembly that JBP offers instead of the Eibach sportlines as originally planned. My Quaife LSD is waiting to be installed into the transmission as are the Fidanza flywheel and Cluchmasters 4Puck FX400, DC strut bar. I have some other goodies on the way such as motor\transmission mounts and control arm bushings. I have also ordered some custom driveshafts capable of holding 600whp with slicks. Now I need to choose size and brand of slicks.
I will also be researching where it is possible to get a carbon fiber hood that is customized to include louvered heat extractors to remove the heat build up that will happen with the turbo charger, once it is installed.
This is a very exciting time right now and this is going to be a beautiful ride when it is done. Sadly that is not going to be for another 8 weeks
Mev is hoping to send me a bit of the video they're doing and when I get it I will share that as well. I will post more updates as they become available.

be careful with the clutch masters clutch, bad things I've heard so far. I would take into consideration whether they sent you the correct clutch with the fitment issues.

Good luck with all your goals and I hope that you get your car back soon!

Hope the 8 weeks is a reality for you. You know what I am tempted to say

You do know now you have to start looking for a winter ride....or drive a 4 door Sunfire during the shitty weather.

Can't wait to see how she goes when it gets done.

Sweet. Have you concidered a twin screw S/C instead of the roots style. A Whipple W75AX is rated to I think 35 psi @ 20,000rpm.

Hey Rod, check out my thread on my slicks. I think they are a very good choice. Good size too. No rubbing issues at all and I am willing to bet that they will even fit on a lowered cobalt without fitiment issues.

Here are pics and specs https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/wheels-tires-96/%2Apics%2A-my-new-front-wheels-hehe-23566/

My understanding is that there is no direct product for our engines at this time and Whipple has no plans to make it anytime soon. I would rather not have someting just fabricated as a one off but actually designed for our motor. Besides some people will be happy with the route I am going as it will provide options for twincharging.

You my friend, are going to have one KICK ASS car in 8 weeks. Are you going to do any body mods, or all motor. Having the body remain stock would be one helluva sleeper car that could walk Cobra's and Vette's!!!!

Twincharging seems like a waste of cash and overly complicated IMO.

Go to a M&H 15" true slick, not a two tread DOT tire. M&H has some great 8"slicks that they use on HIGH horsepower cars that you could make work. If you need some help on what would be required, let me know.

How much HP do they think the stock pistons can handle. I was considering pushing the envelope of the stock motor. thanks!

I read that you are doing a twincharge set-up. How much is all of this going to run you? I was looking to do around the same set-up. Definitely want the twincharge but finally somebody on here to tell me how much it's going to cost to upgrade everything else that is going to have to be upgraded. All in all.. What would I be looking at? Thanks!
