upgrade intercooler pump, NOW INSTALLED pics page 2

now installed, pics in post 32

a little backround here, like many people i have experianced an intercoolerp pump failure. the gm dealer wants $425 (thats with my 20% off through my shop), and ford wanted $300 for the stock bosche pump. i was looking into getting one off e-bay, but even by the time i got it it would have cost me more than a pump thats going to fail again in a year and a half should.

after some searching here is what i came up with

its a meziere wp136s, designed for air/water intercoolers and remote cooling systems. it flows 20gpm, draws only 5 amps (stock draws 4 amps). meziere is known for their reliability, this pump is designed for over 3000 hours of constant use and has a 2 year unlimited mile warrenty. its also fully rebuildable with parts avalible. the only downside to this pump is that it must be mounted vertically with the motor on the top, this is to reduce the chance of a motor failure should the pump seal leak.

with the low amperage of this pump, i should be able to wire it to the factory intercooler pump wiring without adding another relay. as a precausion i will add a fuse at the pump just for redundantcy (a fuse comes in the wiring harness with the pump). i will need to make a bracket up and re-do some of the plumbing.

as for the benifits of going this route, for me not having to put a new pump in every year and a half is the biggest one. im not sure if i will see any improvment in cooling. the manufacturor of the laminova recomends for our short cores to have minimum 10gpm of coolant flow for one core, more if you run cores in series. the stock pump falls very short at 6-7gpm. for a dual pass setup the coolant flow rate will be right on for whats recomended. i think it would further improve a single pass manifold. as for testing it vs stock, i dont really have a lot of time. i have a dual pass end plate and surge tank waiting to go on the car, i will likley do it all in one shot so my results could be a little scewed, i may need some input from others to help come up with the right conclusion from this experiment. keep in mind im not doing this just for cooling, its more for the fact that i need a replacment.

summitracing.com, $189 for the pump and the 2 fittings were $16 each. the fittings are special, they arent pipe thread they are -12 ORB (o-ring boss). basicly they are an AN thread without the 37* flare on the end and they use an o-ring to seal them.

theres a website you can get the stock pump for like 95. its a ford performance company. I bought one for my last cobalt when the pump went out. I think its lightningperformance.com or something. The Cobra Mustang and Lightning use the same pump. It's a complete plug and play, the connector and all. But your find looks pretty promising too...I wanna know more when you find it out....

05 here with 42,000 miles and still on the stock working pump. Are u more prone to failure when adding a dual-pass, opt b, and/or extra h/e? I would think so as u are adding more fluid causing the pump to work harder.

Think of it this way is it easier to blow through a 3" straw or a 8" straw.

Create a how to when u are done.

it will likley be a couple weeks before i get it on. as i said, im doing my dual pass at the same time so results may be a bit scewed, but ill post up when its on.

yea i know there are sites that have the stock style pump for $95, however convert to canadian and add shipping, taxes and the ups/fedex surprize butseks fee and it idnt cost effective to buy a pump thats going to fail within a couple years.

i should also mention that this pump is a common replacment on the cobra/lightning.

ID of coolant hose is 3/4". idk the fitting part #, but the ID diameter should narrow it down

Excellent find! Subscribed!

My pump is dead, and I have all the time in the world to install it. If I had the money for it I'd do it.

Ok...i just re-read the OP...i thought you could mount it sideways like the stock pump. well....maybe fabbin up a bracket wont be that bad...it should all pay off in the end.
