Using Oil

So today i go to do an oil change on my car nothing fancy just the regular. After I pulled out the plug let it drain for about ten minutes then put the plug back in I realize there isn't as much oil in my pan as there should be, So i pour the oil out of the pan into a gallon container and it fills it up about three fourths of the way.

So my question is wtf? is my car using three quarts of oil every 3000 miles? Has anyone else had this problem?

1 quart for every 3K miles is considered normal. We have high revving boosted engines which only compounds the issue.

Sounds like a trip to the dealer is in the very near future for you. You should not be burning 3 quarts of oil every 3k.

And you shouldn't have black smoke on startup.

I found that checking oil between changes saves me from any low oil problems

The filter will still be holding some oil too.

Well I have 9500 on mine & I have not used a drop in the 2 oil changes but I do know the dealer only puts 6 QTs in & I have to top it off with another 1/2 QT or so as the first oil change I had it back at the dealer as it loked like it used 1 QT in 300 miles but it turned out they screwed up on the oil change & only put 5 QTs or so in

Make sure you check it after anyone besides you changes it & then you will know whats up !!!!!

I hope it's just a miss que from filling as 3 QTs would mean bad rings or intake or something internal is not right.

Black smoke is usually an indication that the engine is burning rich, (too much fuel). Oil smoke will be sort of a gray and sometimes with a slight bluish tint. You should be able to smell the difference as well.

If you suspect the problem may be related to recent mods, unmod the mod and see if the problem goes away. If the vehicle is still under warranty, take it to the dealer. Unmod the mod if taking it to the dealer because they may blame the mod.

If this is the first oil change or if the oil was recently changed, the person filling the engine may have assumed that four quarts was enough because it is a four cylinder. In the case of the super charged engine, this would not be true as the SC 2.0L holds 6qts.
