good luck with this it's a big job I've seen a few Volkswagen guys doing it and have thought of doing it to my dub as well.

just a tip though you might want to look into an 89 conquest Independant suspension rearend. it will probably fit better and have plenty of beef for your kind of numbers

Okay... wow... seriously sick... that's going to a whole 'nother level... why not just shoe-horn in a LS2 while you're going?

Props to you for doing it... but now I think you've gone too far... I wouldn't call it a Cobalt anymore... it's gonna have about as much in common with the rest of us as the pro-street guys running in the IHRA.

The heart of my "Cobalt" is still an LSJ, which is the very reason I am not shoe horning in a V8. The rwd just fixes the design flaw GM made, when they built this car. When I go around kicking V8 ass I will do so with a "Cobalt's" little 4 cylinder engine.

There is a guy in Washinton state who has a full on drag car with a 350 in it but that one does only look like a Cobalt.
If I had started the project with rwd in mind, then I would likely have done the V8, but the rwd conversion came out of neccessity more than planning.

LT1?! LS1, baby!

Either way, badass project! You'll be throwing crazy numbers and smoke from those rear wheel wells. Very cool!

The V8 comes the next time I go crazy. As for the smoke coming off the back tires we are going with 335 street tires, 390 drag radials and still undecided on the race slicks. We are expecting some crazy numbers out of a little 4 banger
