Voided my Warranty!?!?!
Voided my Warranty!?!?!
I am buying an exhaust and my parents think its going to void my warranty. I did a search and I couldn't find a clear cut answer. I know it won't but they don't belive me. I wanna send them this link.
Unless someone in here works for YOUR dealership. I wouldn't take anything said in here as gospel.
I've heard of dealers voiding warranties because the owner put in different spark plugs.
Not GM mind you......but you never know.

Check it out. You should find out what you're looking for.
Basically, in order for a part to void your warrenty, the dealer must prove that your modification was the cause of the damage. You should be perfectly safe with putting an exhaust on your car.

People (including me) have warranty work done all of the time with all kinds of exhaust (gmp to custom) and it doesint make one bit of difference. The thing you should do is call your local GM dealer and make sure they arnt going to be shitty about it but MOST of the time they are cool.

Q. What are the major benefits of a GM Performance Exhaust System?
A. There are many benefits:
1. Deeper exhaust note compared to the original-equipment exhaust system
2. Designed for your GM vehicle by GM engineers
3. Does not void the new-vehicle warranty
4. 300-Series stainless steel construction with semi-polished mufflers
5. Meets or exceeds AL federal decibel requirements, per SAE J1169 testing procedures
6. Adjustable and interchangeable tips allow for vehicle personalization
7. Emissions compliant in ALL 50 states
Q. Why is the GM Performance Exhaust System better than the rest?
A. The GM Performance Exhaust System is designed, tested, and manufactured specifically for your GM vehicle. GM Performance Exhaust Systems are made entirely of the highest-quality 300-Series stainless steel; this includes the cat-back exhaust, the semi-polished mufflers, and polished tips and fasteners. With semi-polished muffler and adjustable and interchangeable exhaust tips, the GM Performance Exhaust System gives GM vehicles owners the opportunity to take vehicle personalization to the next level.
The 300-Series stainless steel resists surface corrosion altogether, unlike 400-Series stainless steel used on non-GM exhaust systems.
GM engineers complete numerous tests to ensure that the GM Performance Exhaust System performs as designed and meets or exceeds all federal decibel regulations without the need for additional modifications to the vehicle.
Q. Why doesn't GM advertise horsepower, torque, and fuel economy increases like most other exhaust manufactures?
A. The results of horsepower, torque, and fuel economy are very subjective. Changing the cat-back exhaust system alone will generally provide only modest gains.
Q. Will installing the GM Performance Exhaust System void the vehicle warranty?
A. No. In fact, the GM Performance Exhaust System is the ONLY system covered by the New-Vehicle Limited Warranty. See warranty information.
Q. Is a larger-diameter pipe and muffler better?
A. No. Several details are considered when developing a balanced design that enhances maximum engine output, exhaust gas velocity, and sound. If the diameter of the tubing is too large, the exhaust gas velocity will be reduced thus depriving the exhaust of thermal velocity.
Q. Are special tools needed to install GM Performance Exhaust Systems?
A. No In fact, GM Performance Exhaust Systems allow the installer to use all the original-equipment exhaust hangers, permitting easy installation.
Q. My vehicle came equipped with a stainless steel exhaust. What's the difference in the "stainless steel"?
A. 300-Series stainless steel is a higher-grade stainless steel than that of the original-equipment exhaust system. The GM Performance Exhaust System is made of completely of T-304 stainless steel.
Q. How long does it take to install the GM Performance Exhaust System?
A. Though installing GM Performance Exhaust Systems varies slightly from vehicle to vehicle, generally, they can be installed in 1.5 hours or less.
Q. Where can I buy the GM Performance Exhaust Systems?
A. CrateEngineDepot.com

But to the OP, Read up on the Magnuson Moss Act and you will breath a great sigh of releif, because a catback exhaust system isn't going break anything anyway.
But i do have a question, if this is such an issue, then why didn't you just get one of the 4 awesome GMPP exhaust kits that are available???
i disagee, corsa is licenced by gm, and ive seen corsa systems on the wall at a service bay. i also own a corsa touring for the balt, and a corsa sport formy silverado ss. the fittment is awsome, and you can order corsa from your gm dealer, thru its accessories center.
btw, what is your definition of highly modded shortbus?

The Pontiac dealer I went to for my original stage2 flash is cool. I talked to one tech about exhaust for awhile and he said the manager has a truck with a Magnaflow exhaust. When a customer can't decide on what exhaust system they want, he takes them out to his truck, fires it up and 9 times out of 10 they get the Magnaflow.
It is all up to the dealer and what mods you have that can have your warranty voided. Find a cool dealership and never go elsewhere.

In order for something to void your warrenty it would have to be a part that is covered under warrenty, like injectors. Exhaust is a wear item like your tires, you will have to replace it in the future regardless of if you use the gm one or aftermarket. Only the exhaust manifold , resonator and the cat are covered under warrenty (sure in the first 90days if your muffler quits Gm will replace it but not after 10,000km), and seeing howmost people only put a cat back exhaust on their cars you will have no problem.
Just ask your Dad when the last time he got a new muffler for his car and didn't have to pay for it. Nobady warrenties a muffler or 5 feet of piping that truly is none essential other the noise pollution. Same idea as tires!

I got the GMPP sport exhaust w/ the GMPP honed exhaust manifold.... very nice!!!
I went with GMPP because I don't want to argue with anyone about ANY warranty issues.
If you are planning other non GMPP mods, it might not matter.....
and yes the Magnuson Moss Act is in place.... but why have the potential for trouble w/ warranty issues.
My plan is to stay GMPP until the warranty is toast.... then I'll probably do some more intense stuff like other peeps!

i would go with the GMPP exhaust so that they can't say it wasn't compatible with the car and as i understand it if you buy almost any GMPP product and have the stealership install it you still retain your factory warranty
the exhaust wont void your warenty..it will only void your exhaust parts if anything happens... so if something goes wrong with ur engine they wont void it cuz of the exhaust..the only way they can do that is if they can prove that the exhaust was the problem
emissions includes your intake, intake manifold, exhaust manifold,piping,o2 sensors, etc.
tell your parents to grow the **** up
if one dealership cares, try another one. my cavalier had a catback, as well as full body kit, intake, etc etc etc... basically, it was so far from stock anybody and their mom knew it... when my passenger side window motor went out, it got fixed under warranty, no questions asked (i even had modified door panels and they still didnt try to blame that on the window motor). You should be fine. And like said, the only way they can deny warranty work is if the exhaust caused the problem.
Oh, and isnt it possible that your parents are just trying to discourage you from dumping money into your car? I've seen this happen before. They might either be worried about the cost, the safety, etc. if you modifying your car. If they are paying any part of the car and/or insurance, that might be a good reason for them caring.
