Are we in trouble??
Are we in trouble??
This up-coming year there are a few new sport compacts hitting the market. New Dodge SRT-4, Lancer Evolution X, and a new WRX Impreza. Granted most of those cars don't look too appealing with the exception of the new Evo X but what they do have is a lot of power. Dodge SRT has 300 hp and the new Evo puts down something like 320 hp.
Now I'm not sure how much power someone has gotten out of a S/C with the Eaton but I don't recall seeing anything over 270 or so. I also do know that a turbo does have boost lag depending on the size of the turbo. But would our cars(pushing 270 hp) be able to hang with something that comes with so much power right off the lot, much less modded? I'm not all that familiar with forced induction or much about mechanics but I don't see our cars being able to compete with those.
Also, even though the SS S/C is only rated to 300 hp, would it be able to handle more power if the blower was swaped for something that didn't run so hot. There is a twin screw being tested right now and on a stock set up I believe it makes 281 whp. So for those of you who knows this cars ability far more than I do, if we threw a stage 2 set up on a TS would our motors hold up to it.
I know I really want to see this car have the capabilities of competing with those cars that are about to hit the roads. Sorry for the long post and thanks for any input you guys have.

Turbos have more pontential we wont be able to compete with those cars unless we are heavliy modded. A turbo swap is a good idea to put you in the game but dont expect to be running with those cars anytime soon. With a few simple mods those cars can easliy defeat a cobalt. Im not putting down the cobalt at all, I love this car and I wouldnt give it up for any of those but Im just being realistic. Twin screw is something to look into for a good boost in power though. With proper R&D on a good procharged or twinscrew system we may have a chance.

From a roll it will not be as bad as you might think. The SRT4 will be 285 HP but weighs like 300 pounds more. And the new EVO and STI will be around 320 HP, but weighs like 600 pounds more !
but how much do they cost compared to us i only payed 18000 for mine they will pay double that
the Caliber shouldn't be a problem, the evo to seems to be a different breed and the new STi should be a close race if it's stock from a roll, in the end it's all bullshit anyways, enjoy your car and be proud of it.
If you want to rule the road build a Supra or some other high powered V8

well .... uh.... theres no stage 2 for the twin screw, once u twinscrew.... thats pretty much all you can do.... the kit comes with a tune, and injectors and ****..... no stage 2 twinscrew...... as for those cars being fast off the lot.... its true, and they'll get made ever faster by the owners. look at it this way..... atleace were not driving a ugly ass caliber LOL............. chevy knows whats up, thats why they have the HHR ss comming out. and soon to be cobalt ss/tc ....... that'll even up the playing field
