What is the Correct Transmission Fluid

Ive been searching on here but there seems to be a lot of confusion and differing opinions.

What is the GM recommended fluid? Where can I get it?

What is a suitable aftermarket replacement fluid? Is it better or worse? why?

Maybe if this thread works out well it can become a sticky. I'm personally really confused, Autozone tried to sell me ATF.

If you go to GM's website, you can download the owner's manual for free.
It says in there what Tranny fluid to use. Dependson wich tranny/engine
you have.

The F35 in the ss/sc uses GM part # 88862472

When I log in to the GM Owner's Center the manual tells me Dexron 3.

I went to a dealer today and they told me it was a Satrun part #21018899.

So which is it? Is there any difference between the Saturn 21028899 and the GM 88862472?

The dealer told me the Saturn fluid was $14/qt while people on here and CED quote the GM fluid at $20+. Because of this price difference it makes me feel like there is a difference.

The dealer sold me dexron VI ATF for my 2008 2.4L sport 5-speed MANUAL... its AC Delco so the fluid itself is probably OEM good, i just hope its the right fluid for this transmission. Costed $15 for 2L. does anyone know if its the right fluid?
This should be figured out for all model years and made a sticky!!
