what muffler...

my plans for the near future:

zzp stage 3 hear exchanger
zzp catted dp with the welded in magnaflow
badmab header
trifecta tune

now, I was planning on a catback exhaust, but after doing a lot of reading there's only minimal gains with a catback as the dp seems to be the most restrictive part of the car. people are saying it's mostly a sound mod and I really don't want to shell out a good amount of money when I can weld in a quality muffler and achieve a deeper tone.

that being said, what do you guys recommend for a weld in muffler?

*also, does my plan make sense to you guys? haha

thanks guys

Thats a good setup in my opinion. I recommend the Dynomax Super Turbo Muffler. I have it on my 2.4 and it has a nice deep tone. Dynomax Performance 17733 - Dynomax Super Turbo Mufflers - Overview - SummitRacing.com

Also the only other thing I would add to that setup would be to add the cti over the axel kit.

CTI 2.5 Over Axel Replacement for after market muffler - Over The Top Performance

Our exhaust has few major restrictions. The first being the downpipe and the other being the portion of the exhaust at the rear axel that shirnks down to 2.25 inches. Basically its a bottleneck so thats why alot of people cut that piece of the stock exhaust out and replace it with 2.5 piping then add a muffler of your choice and you have a custom 2.5 inch exhaust.

No.

The SS/TC's catback is 2.50" all the way through, and flows well. On the SS/TC a catback is mainly a sound mod. It's different for the SS/SC though.

The SS/SC can gain on avg. 5-8whp from a catback alone. The biggest restriction on the stock catback is the resonator's 2 1/16" inlet, followed by the 2.25" neck down portion over the rear twist beam. I would get a catback over welding on a muffler any day, but that's just me.

Anybody ever run a S/C with no muffler and just a resonator? seems like it would sound bad but I thought I would ask.

It will sound like ass.

The SS/SC needs both to sound good.

Dynomax super turbo muffler will sound extremely quiet at idle / low rpms and amazing at wide open throttle. I highly recommend it, buy one!

^ it will, but it wont be obnoxious. i have a super turbo on my car before on the stock piping, it sounded like the ****. then i got a deal on a Megan cat back. im disappointed. so im gonna cut the Megan off and put another turbo muffler on.

My recomendation is that you buy a Stainless Muffler, it will last alot longer!

I was also thinking of buying a magnaflow resonator and swap it with the stock muffler, no other exhaust mods. Is there a sound clip somewhere? I want it to be loud...but not civic raspy loud :P

Normally I would have considered it...but I'm saving for a stage 3 kit :P So 100$ for a resonator for lots of noise isn't too bad...but I still want it to be deep

Back in the day, I replaced the stock muffler with a GMPP Touring Muffler, and it sounded real nice. I highly recommend keeping the resonator. Your exhaust will be raspy and hollow sounding w/o one.
