When do you oil change?

since the 2.0L uses synthetic, how long do you guys wait to change the oil. I'm use to changing my oil every 3,000 miles. Do people actually use the computer % as a tool, or do you guys have a time frame that you use. The reason I ask, is that my trip computer says I still have 43% left, and I have all ready put 3400 miles on the oil change. It makes me nervous even though it is synthetic.

at 50% mine would have been about 2900 miles. I must drive crazier.

My car almost has 6,000 miles on it and hasn't had an oil change yet. I'm going to get one soon though as the oil life is somewhere in the 20s.

is that 6000 total miles on your car, or on this oil change??? Because you should have had an oil change done with the motor break in period.

I just switched to synthetic so I do it at 5-6K while keeping an eye on the oil life monitor. Before I did it at 3-3.5K with regular.

its mostly a personal preference thing... gm recommends when your oil life montitor is at like 15% or something.. do what u feel is right for u and your car!

i run it till im around 10% on the oil moniter. it seems like a lot of KMs (did an oil change when i got the car, at 58% and put on 4500km), i figure 8000kms by the time i hit 10%, but i do lots of freeway driving. the oil life moniter calculates it based on your driving habbits. if you drive hard lots it will go down faster, same with stop and go driving and short trips. if you warm it up fully and do lots of freeway it will go down slower.

keep in mind we do use synthetic oil, it takes far longer to break down than conventional oil. ive heard of a guy doing filter changes every 5000 miles and keeping the same oil for 25000 miles. he did lab tests every filter change and the oil was still within acceptable spec at 25000 miles, he just changed it because he felt he should.
