Unless the shop totally sucks they can tune it without you getting a wideband, but I wouldn't be comfortable not knowing what my A/F ratio is. It's a good thing to keep your eye on when driving around, especially if you're giving it hell on a cold day.

NO... most dyno shops will use a tailpipe sniffer type AFR...
Getting a wideband is deff. an important addition... if you are too cheap for a wideband don't tune your car!

You don't need a Wideband. And after driving a car with one, it will just aggrevate you and drive you crazy because the damn thing wont stop turning colors and changing stuff. I hate them personally in the vehicle.
The Dyno shop can either tap into your O2 sensor bung, or your tailpipe. Save yourself the money, and don't buy the wideband.
And buying a wideband will make his tune dyno tune better how? They're not even going to look at his. And unless you have a way to LOG the wideband it really doesn't do you a heap of good.

I didn't say anything dumb. Some people just think that if they own one they'll know what to do with it. Then they post up in the forums wondering why the number doesn't sit still and it makes them get a case of paranoia.

Well... I would imagine if you don't know what the numbers mean it would be worthless.......
But... knowing what the numbers mean, you can know if it isn't running right... But if you want to tell people it's unimportant go ahead....

He asked if he needs one. My answer is no. Only people who are tuning the cars them selves need one, and then they still have to hook it up to their tuning software and log it properly.
If you've got time to watch the numbers while flooring your car, then you car is too slow!

you can do it either way. i don't log afr. never have. i just keep an eye on it. anything seems wacky or the car doesn't pull like it should. something is a miss. make changes and go from there. i use my egt more than a wideband anyways.
