how can you guys learn how to tune without tuning software in your hands?

i've got a tuning book and I can read all day but it really means nothing if i have no real world experience to apply it to.

 

Well... you can prepare yourself for what things you should do first, and how you should do them..

You learn a program by sitting in front of it, but you need a separate knowledge to know how to tune... Meaning learning the program youll learn where things are, how to find them, and how to change them... prior reading will allow you to know what to change, why you change it, and how much to change it by.

I understand what you mean, but you can make tables in excel or on paper, and learn how the values change, and what they do... unless yJou read you wouldnt know how to compensate for fueling problems, MAF readings and such... HPtuners doesnt teach you how to change something and it just allows you to.
