For CHEAP. Ok.. Maybe not cheap but decently priced. I'm going to speak to a friend who owns a import shop about having some custom 2.5" and 3" catbacks bent up for a Cobalt SS and then dyno'd to show gains.

Would anyone be interested in a dyno proven 2.5" catback for 150-185 dollars? or 3" for 200-225?

Alright.. Here's what i've thought up.

Step 1 will be having a test piece bent up and installed on a stock 06 SS. Thankfully a friend just bought a totally stock SS so his car will be the testbed.

Step 2 i will post the same day before and after dyno graphs. I'm going to have a 2.5" and a 3" bent up just because i want to see what a 3" catback will do.

Step 3 will take it from there. If there is interest i will have the systems bent up at my cost. I'm not a business so i will not be marking up catbacks to ripoff my cobalt brethren. I'm just going to sell them at the price i paid for them. I am meeting josh tonight to head to casino az to play poker so we'll discuss prices more but when i spoke to him on the phone before he said my prices were alittle high. The catbacks will not be stainless or have mandrel bends. I'm actually thinking you'd rather have the system welded but i'm sure we could work something out if you really want clamps. As for muffler's... I haven't decided yet. I really like Dynomax so we'll probably use them but i'm thinking we'll have a quiet 2.5" system and a loud 2.5" system.

Any questions.... Just post here or PM me.

Well considering that the GMPP catback was proven to add 0.5hp, and 1.xtq I think that we could use a better dyno proven exhaust option.

I'm going to link this to the 2.4L and 2.2L forums as well. IF the gains are decent this is a win win for everyone.

GM High Performance Magazine a few months back. Maybe September issue.

Gains with the GMPP exhaust were modest, yielding only 1.2 hp and 1.3 lb-ft at the tires (red graph).

I'd be interested, depending on how it sounds... want it to sound like a gmpp sport exhaust with 2.5 piping. Keep us updated. On the options on mufflers, how about borla or magnaflow. They sound great on our cars.

Reign,

All it is right now is talk. When and if i decide to sell and produce i will go through the proper channels and become a supporting vendor. Thank you for explaining it to me on what i can and can't do.

Stainless and mandrel bends are all up to what you want. They also both up the price for the product. This catback will be for ones who want performance and who don't need the frills or the price of stainless or mandrel. As for saying it'll rot out in one winter. Please.

I don't care about it not being stainless, but... wouldn't it not being mandrel bent make it bottlenecked so to speak like the stock exhaust set up?

And Flowmaster>Dynomax

I'm not an expert on exhaust dynamics so i have no idea. One of the reasons why i'm going to get the first system up and dyno'd to see if doing it on a wider scale is feasible.

Could this flop? Sure but atleast we'll know what works and what doesn't.

Yea, no harm in trying! Plus, it appears you have some money to burn, so i'm sure it won't kill you!

AZ, no rust buddy. You could rub salt on it and submerge it in water and it still wouldn't rust here.

Spending 300-400 dollars on a 2.5" and 3" catback that could benefit everyone on the board is nothing to me. I'm going to be getting an IRL as soon as i could find one in that awesome blue color.
