Wideband sensor placement
Wideband sensor placement
A few months ago I had a Wideband O2 sensor installed by a performance shop. Lately I have been having an issue of it reading nothing but 20.0 the whole time, even though the car runs fine.
So I thought maybe the sensor got loose some how so I got underneath to check it out and it was fine but I noticed it was installed immediately after the cat. I wrote glowshift who is the maker of the gauge and they said to clean it with some brake cleaner and that it should be installed before the cat. Any one have any opinions or advice ?

If they fucked that up... there's no telling what else they fucked up though.
I know the performance shop he went to and they will put it in pre cat but charge you more to drop the downpipe out of it to weld the bung in. Your choice. Obviously your reading isn't as accurate after the cat but won't make it read 20.0 all the time when driving.
Ya just called and they were kinda of like it's not a big deal that its not that big a difference in readings. Oh well. Gonna take it out early next week and clean it. i know the car runs rich so maybe its all covered in black carbon.

It could be off by a lil or alot.
I totally agree with ya. I'm pretty sure yellow dragon knew cause I got the same thing done I my car at the same shop. I didn't put it before the cat because I had a header coming my way and just wanted a rough tune. I tuned it for 11.5 afr and that was wideband sitting after the cat. When I installed my long tube and put the wideband where it was supposed to be it was reading 11.8. New header had a play in that also I'm sure. But back to the OP regardless if the wideband was placed before or after the cat it shouldn't read 20.0 all the time when driving.

yep I agree BL I am gonna clean it and if that doesnt work by a new O2 Sensor, actually i would love to buy a new wideband not a fan of the brightness on the glowshift. i would love to get a prosport Evo series Wideband. and boost gauge
Doesnt pro sport make glow shifts gauges? I hope you're not going to be tuning off of this wideband, I would not trust a glowshift wideband with the safety of my lawnmower engine. And if you're not tuning what do you even need a wideband for?
This. They are made to be cheap and pretty... not accurate.
LOL yea right. you need to find a new shop.
I'll put money on the fact that the problem you are having is from the O2 Sensor getting too hot, being that close to the cat. On my last turbo set-up, the O2 Sensor was too close to the Turbo, and when I'd go WOT, the Wideband would peg 18-20AFR. A friend of mine with a FC RX-7 had the same problem... his wideband sensor was too close after the turbo, and those motors - especially his - run some HOT EGT's! The O2 sensors are supposed to be a certain distance away from the head, turbo, and more than likely the cat, as well. Usually that's outlined in the instructions... but with a cheap wideband, its hard to say.
