Winter Mod Removal

This might sound like a stupid thing to do but does anyone remove their AFTERMARKET CAI during the snow season? This is my first winter with a K&N intake on the car and just to save all that @#$@ salt from going into engine i was contemplating about putting the stock one back in.

Has anyone else done this? Or does anything else to prep for the winter?

subscribed...also interested. More wondering about slush/water than salt though, I have a hydra shield that should stop the salt

If you live in an area that gets below 50 degrees during winter, I would strongly suggest removing your CAI. Reason why is because the MAF is very sensitive. Cooler weather usually means more precipitation. Get the filter wet and your MAF is going to cause your car to buck and hesitate on accel. Now pack some snow on there and not only are you blocking air flow but you are also going to hate driving your car for a long time till that snow melts and your filter dries... which can be months.

I'd consider removing any polished parts to avoid having to deal with salt ruining their appearance.

I got my car on Dec. 19 and put and intake on the next day I have ran it ever since and had no problems in the winter with snow or salt. I live in Michigan and drive 3000 to 3500 miles a month so I would say thats a pretty good product test.

I actually just pulled the filter off two weeks ago and was surprised at how dirty it wasn't

Don't drive a cobalt ss/sc in the winter. She will remember how bad you treated her all winter and when spring comes she will not peform at the track I'm telling you, how you treat her will always be brought up later in a fight.

K&N is a SRI, the filter is inside the engine bay for us 2.4 owners Shouldnt need to remove anything. I drove my car with a CAI in the winter with snow and no problems.

So i guess everyone is saying to leave it on? and there should be no issues with it during the winter months. right?

trust me i would love to park my baby for the winter. But just aint in the cards you know.

i have winter tires form last year and i still need to put on the ingalls ETD so that should help

what about oil sprayed... in the owners manual it says it doesn't need it because of the treatment of the paint and metal... but i'm worried about the long run ... if emissions hold off for now

the stock air box doesn't draw any heat off of the exhaust manifold like most cars, so i am just gonna keep my SRI on.
