winters coming... should i remove CAI??

just a thought. i have the INJEN and it drops the filter down in the bumper. i don't think it usually gets too wet down there and i have a dryflow filter cover but i dont think it does ****.

anywho i dont wanna get waterlogged, has anyone had troubles because of this in the winter ? if so i might need to a: take out a piece of the intake to have the filter more in the engine compartment or b) get a stock intake. peace

I use the stock air box with an AEM dryflow filter. Aftermarket intakes wont gain you anything but supercharger noise, extra weight, and water on your air filter. The inlet and intake tubing is like twice the size of the TB..... The stock intake on these cars is actually really good.

I used to have an 03 Cavalier Z24 with an AEM CAI for 5 years and ran it every winter. Last year I ran the airbox mod on my balt with no issues and this will be my first year with a ZZP CAI. Where I live in Canada we get lots of snow so I wouldn't be concerned to run it.

You can get your CAI wet in the middle of summer. Running a CAI in the winter is not going to make it any more or less of a chance of getting wet.

when i had the injen cai, in summer time, if it rained. or after i got a car wash, car would jerk really hard. like going wot, then cutting power, and slamming on brakes. about 5 times every 3 seconds. lol. it was really bad.

i got the turbo xs cai. filter sits just under the headlight bracket. about 10" higher than the injen cai. car works fine in the heaviest rain and monsoons.

I'm leaving mine on.
Friends leave there's on with no issues throughout these winters.
If you do end up having issues, you'll probably know what it is.

If you are about to drop the money on a new Sri. But you would rather keep a cai get the turbo XS cai.

I've always kept mine on. I sealed up the opening around the fog light (which is where the water comes in) with duct tape from the inside (not visible from the outside) and I've never had a problem at all.

I've had a CAI on for 4 winters, never a problem. I would keep it on.

Though if it does get wet, you will get a hard jerk/fuel cut even with slight throttle until it dries again. that sucks

Leave it. You'll be fine. I live just south of Chicago, 25 minutes to be exact.

I'm pretty sure my custom CAI is causing me all my idle problems when it rains Couple weeks ago i had my car on the lift at my buddies shop and i had lots of water dripping up in the fender where the filter is so it has to be getting wet/damp when its raining. I'm probably gonna throw this one away and have a nice SRI made. It sounds better with a SRI anyway.
