WTF happend to my head?
WTF happend to my head?
Long story short, my car sounded like it had a ticking valve, so I take it into my dealership. They said it isnt that loud dont worry about it. I didnt like that answer, but I followed instructions. 2 weeks later I come back cause it has gotten louder. Answer is same, and they insinueate its my fault cause my tires are bald and I have an aftermarket exhaust. They say it still isnt that loud, dont worry about it. So then finally, last friday, my CEL goes on, and i can tell i have lost a cylinder. It sounds like ****, and no power. Luckily I was in my parking lot. So i get it towed to a new dealership. I get a call back later and they say
"The spark plug was not screwed into the head. The head has been stripped, and cannot have the spark plug fastened properly, so we will have to do major surgery." These guys are cool as hell, and told me they will save parts for me and hooked me up with the rental. So I think they said they are going to replace the head, or atleast do something to retrofit the plug back in. I cant remember the technical details, but they assured me they will fix it, and I can take up my problems with the other dealer. The first dealer I went to claimed to take the head off to look at the problem, yet they only had my car for 1.5-2 hours.
Anyways, how the hell could my head have been stripped like that? My only guess is it was a lazy tech that overtorqued my plug, or didnt even screw it in in the first place or something. But if it isnt that, then what are some other possibilities on how my head got stripped?
All I know is holy ****!

Some tech probably over torqued the spark plug. Thats only ever been the situation of a stripped ignition plug I have ever ran into. To the shop that said they took off your head, they are full of (insert randomly generated cuss word here) if they removed your head they would of had to put a new head gasket in.
BTW is this covered under warrenty?
Well it is an aluminum head and that means the threads are aluminum too and every once in a while if its a bad casting to start with the plug CAN work itself loose and rip the threads out. Its rare but I have seen it happen.
I had a problem with my ignition pack and the dealer wrote it off because my "aftermarket plugs caused it" and I had to pay over 400 dollars to get it fixed
Update...
So it took em 3 weeks to get it fixed because of "shipping errors" but everything is straight now. They replace the entire head which is sweet.
To Cobalt5SS, if you have the same prolem I did, you will notice when you go to change the plugs. There was exhaust soot all up in the spark plug socket and when I pulled the coilpack up, the spark plug came right up with it instead of having to be unscrewed to get it out. If you have the same problem as me, I would advise against letting them know you messed with it. I was luck enough to find a good dealership that recognized this problem wasnt my fault, but I have been to plenty of dealerships that will blame anything on you for any reason possible. Good luck with your fix..

I talked to the dealership today and they said they fix it under warranty and pay for towing
they dont know i have stage 3 at this point so i hope they will still fix under warranty if they do notice.
its only the extra tank that gives the stage 3 away and my be the intake
