2.2 Auto rev
2.2 Auto rev
I have a 2.2l auto and when i put it in neutral it only lets me rev to 4000 rpm's. is anyone else having this problem? if so what is there that we can do to make it rev higher?
Someone that shows up at the meet up here, has a 2003/4 Caviler and his is auto and he can only rev 4k in N.
Not to be an ass, but if you wanted to rev higher, you shoulda bought a manual. How to raise it on an auto, I have no idea!

ok, 2 things...
1) it's supposed to be like that, it's not a problem
2) why would you ever want to rev above 4,000 in neutral??
That isn't a problem, thats completely normal. It's your fuel cut-off. The ECM won't let you free-rev the engine in neutral any higher then that to prevent damaging the engine. There are 3 cut-offs actually. One is the one just discussed. The other is when in gear and driving, there is a cut off at around 6700 RPM, actually I think its closer to 6500. Then the last one is a torque limiter in your trans that will cut off fuel. It's not at a specific RPM, only a specific torque.

I definitally have to agree. Even the malibu is rev limited to this level, and for good reason. There is no good reason to rev above 4000 rpm, even when launching an auto at the lights, you shouldnt go that high. The engine creates it maximum torque at 4000rpm.. Can you imagine slamming 155lb/ft torque onto a stock auto tranny in a heartbeat?

Your sig is absolutely true. I used to own a malibu, 3100 V6. It was slow but I had the bottle on it. I raced a stock 2002ish RSX-S and spanked him.
lol no one saw THAT comming
