You got that right. You do a fine job yourself.
First: If the Mustang was an older 6cyl you may have a chance. I've beat some 6 banger Mustangs. From your description it sounds like he was held up in traffic so you can't say you were able to keep up with him.
Second: Unless the G37 is running on half it's cylinders you have no chance in hell. Not even close.

i said my car can keep up with them thats all sure it may be 2 or 3 cars back but to me thats still keeping up. as for the kid in the mustang it was on an open parkway and i lost him on the bridge but thats ur oppinion. its just my oppinion that 2.2 autos arent that slow that they can still be within reasonable distance for other cars that should be a lot faster thats it im not saying that it can beat any car thrown at it

The last generation Mustangs with the 3.8 V-6 are just too slow for what they are packing.
They have 190hp, and they list them as a 7.7 second 0-60 for the manual. So if one is armed with a manual it will slowly creep away as the 0-60 on a 2.2 Cobalt automatic is 7.87 seconds for the coupe, I always round it to 8. If it is an automatic convertible V-6 Mustang, a VW Bus could probably pass it.

The new 4.0 I would lose big time.

I test drove a last generation 3.8 and it was lame. Why do I say lame? It is because the up and go was no where near what I expected. I mean the 3800 series II Firebird I had was so much quicker and it weighed more. The automatic in that Mustang felt like an anchor was tossed out the back of the car and it red lined everytime I floored it. I asked the salesman about that and he said it was normal. I told him it should not be normal to reach RPMs past what is recommended and the red line is saying don't go here.

Anyways, I would own a 4.0 Mustang, but never the 3.8 liter version as they must have a crap transmission or the worlds heaviest axle to try and spin the rear wheels.

there's much more of a difference than 1/4 second. It's over a half second, which is a significant difference. I don't care what other people have run, there's always going to be the exception. I was one of the pioneers in modding the 2.2 on this site, I owned one for over 2 years, and have worked on enough of them to know what i'm talking about. You're talking about a stock difference of about 15.7 with manual and a good driver to about 16.2-4 with an auto.

Sorry, I didn't mean to come off like a dick, that happens sometimes on the internet. I type like I talk, and it doesn't always come out right online. So my appologies, hope there's no hard feelings. People that have met me in person would never say i'm a dick, but many people here probably do lol. Again, that's just because words can have different meanings when you read them vs. when you say them.

I'm sure bolt ons and a tune would get you there or at least keep you close. Thats sort of my aim, but ATM I'm very happy with my car. I don't need a 4 sec 0-60 nor do I need to go 150 MPH. I just want a nice, quick/peppy car. Which I have.

i have to agree wit that. when i tracked my car i ran a 15.9 at like 88mph and this was my first time at the track and all i had was a K&N drop in filter and the air box mod and im manual as well. my friend has a automatic wit a CAI, CF hood and only ran i think a 16.4....now the bastard gots a SS/TC lol

x2, my number 1 issue with my car is the auto 4 speed.

Stock the auto transmission sucks, but is it better after getting tuned. I know that vince can tune the transmission, or how much does the shift plus help? Just curious, as of now I don't have either one.

Fully bolted 2.2L + a Tune, which isn't asking much, is more than capable of keeping up with a 2.4L..

Assuming the 2.2L is manual.

in 2004 i used to have a pontiac sunfire all stock 2.2 5 sp. and it would smoke a dodge intrepid v6 auto. the kid was so bashed that he went and put on a 50 shot and still could not out run my stock 2.2. now i no those cars are slow and so was mine. but it was so much fun whipping up on his car.
