2.4 Intake Manifold

First off, I DID search for it but came up empty, the results overcrowded with people's mods...

Can anyone provide a link to the How-to and WTB for the 2.4 intake mani swap for 2.2s?

Ive seen it before...I bookmarked it but lost it

It basically tells you where you can piece it all from, instead of buying the overpriced ced kit

Piecing it together wont cost too much less. through GM Parts direct it will cost ~180 plus shipping, and you will wait 5-6 weeks for parts, and then you still need to buy the adapter plate from CED.

WHOA! I know because i have done it. I have put together a functional kit for that much less than what CED Sells it. It took me just as long as you would have to wait for CED to ship out the entire kit. And the benefit for 07 guys is we don't need the adapter plate. So if you goto my posts and order everything the same day minus the tubing for the brake booster hose then it all should come in around the same time. Unless you order everything from you local dealership minus the tubes for the brake booster line and the adapter plate. The PCV Seal takes 2 days at ANY dealership unless they have it in stock, and that's how most dealerships will work CED is a Dealership and so is gmpartsdirect they are all dealerships.

So, it's spend 273 + Shipping or depending on the route you take about 150 or so all together by doing it yourself.

CED: http://www.crateenginedepot.com/stor...P1817C137.aspx

244.03 plus shipping. Every order from CED I have ever made I received within a week. at most 10 days.

GM Parts Direct:

1 *15855993 HOSE $33.05 $33.05

1 *12589516 SEAL VENT $8.31 $8.31

1 *12600729 SEAL $8.05 $8.05

4 *24455112 GASKET $2.31 $9.24

1 *12587878 MANIFOLD $102.85 $102.85

S&H $38.22

Total $199.72

Plus You have to order the adapter plate from CED:

$34.49 + $7.45 for S&H

Total overall: 241.66

Not to mention I placed my order with GM Parts Direct on June 17th, product was received July 26th.

Overall, I guess its your call. I actually picked up the adapter from someone so I saved 20 on that. If I had to do it again, I probably would just go through CED pay the extra 30 bucks and have it in under 2 weeks, instead now its mid august and it is still not in my car since I am now traveling for work and dont have the time to do the install.

I don't work for CED -- but I think your comment about "overpriced" is WAY out of line. They are selling the parts for a small profit over the price they pay to GM for the parts, and are selling the adapter plates -- to include the cost of having a very small quantity made professionally -- at a really low price when you factor in the cost of start up and minumum sales volume. Included in their "KIT" are installation instructions too -- but you get those at no cost.....

Yes CED is a GM dealership, and yes they are a business, but they provide Cobalt owners with prices and shipping costs that usually beat everybody else.

End Rant....

I second that, I would rather pay a little extra and know that everything that I need is there instead of buying everything seperate. Time = Money, especially when its my time

Speaking of intake manifolds, does the 2.4 offer much of a gain on the 2.2?

I got a 2.0 exhaust manifold for cheap as well, will I see gains?

I still believe the 07's need the TB plate. the only difference I know of is the tune, you guys dont lose as much in the low end

its good for about 12-15 whp, but the 05-06's lose some low end torque. the power band is shifted to higher RPM's the best gain will be around 4-5500 rpm. So if you are an auto, when you punch it and drop a gear or two.

2.4 Intake Manifold -- those that dynoed their cars showed a gain of 7-9 HP @6K RPM

Exhaust manifold -- If you have an 05 or 06 2.2 you would get the biggest gain considering the small "D" shaped outlet on the 2.2 exhaust manifold -- again, in the upper RPM ranges. The 07 - up exhaust manifold was redesigned and has a larger "round" outlet so the gains won't be as great. The SS manifold (same in 2.0 and 2.4 engines) is also straighter overall then the 2.2 manifold (less bends). Every little bit helps.

i wanna do a few things to the wifes 07 2.2 i wanted to do the 2.4 intake mani and throw on my 2.0 header and downpipe. we already have the cai mod with kn filter. she isnt much for racing but when she punches it she likes a little bit more push. and thats what i think it will give her.

also ive seen 15whp with the 2.4 swap

Unless they redesigned the 07 TB to be larger, then the adapter is just good insurance. When I installed the 2.4 manifold on my 06 2.2 I could see the TB seal squished out under the TB. Although it sealed well enough to drive, the fact that it was exposed made me worry about longevity so I got the adapter for "peace-of-mind".

Personnally, if I had an 07 I'd get the adapter for the same reason.

Thanks for the info. Honestly I didn't expect that much of a gain.

You make a good point but you took my words the wrong way. I only said their kit is expensive because you can make it yourself in half an hour (purchasing and finding instructions) and save 75+ dollars. Time is money, so unless you make more than $150/hour, I feel the kit is not the way to go.

well then I suppose you took my words the wrong way. because you do not save 75 dollars, and it takes 5 weeks to get parts from GM parts direct.

I did the piece together.... and I am sorry I did.
Hose - Don't need, follow my How To, cost about 4-7 dollars (it's like 70 for the 2.4 Hose)
TB Seal - Don't need unless yours is messed up, reuse
Gaskets - Don't need unless yours is messed up, reuse
PCV Seal - Needed, order at local dealership for 14, two days in hand
Manifold - 102.
TB Adapter - 37 from CED, 07 Not Needed.

102 + 7 + 14 + 20 = 143 Roughly
273 - 143 = A difference of 130 over the CED Kit.

So, for the 07 Model it's a rough savings of 130
for the 05/06 it's a rough savings of 100 or so. Actual prices and shipping will vary, but there is no shipping charge for parts ordered at the dealership (didn't cost me a damn thing to order the PCV Seal)

So, what the "discussion" is basically over is buying a "Clean" kit, or piecing a kit over "just in case parts" or piecing a kit on "optimistic" outlooks.

CED Has the Clean Kit
GMParts ordered separately has the just in case effect
My Way is cheapest and is for the optimistic person. Chances of a person fubaring the gaskets/seals is pretty low unless you have abnormal engine temperatures/spray/beat the hell out of the car. So chose either way. The Seals at the dealership are about 4 bucks a pop with the TB seal at like 8 bucks. And if they aren't in stock, they will be there in about 2 days.

So essentially nobody is wrong in this case, it's a whatever floats your boat scenario.
