Another potential 2.2 turbo build
Another potential 2.2 turbo build
Well I'm usually all about being conservative buts coworker at my new workplace has convinced me to go ahead and runs some boost on my 05 base model.
Set up I'm probably going to go with:
Already have a 2004 Saab 93 turbo and manifold (still waiting on input for turbo back exhaust)
Probably ss/tc injectors
Custom fabbed piping (2.5" piping into intercooler and 3" into intake mani)
Low boost around 6-8psi
What I'm unsure of at this point is how I'd want to tune it.
I do a lot of highway driving on i74 between Cincinnati and Indianapolis so fuel efficiency is a must lol.
Also a little concerned how my clutch will hold up. It's oem and has about 10k on it and I'm pretty much expecting it to slip in 5th sometimes. When the time comes I'll throw a stage 1 or 2 in there.
Does any one know what kind of life I could get out of the engine if its done right and not constantly beat on?
Any input appreciated thanks CSS family

I'm not necessarily looking for stupid power just a few smiles lol. TC injectors were just an assumption. I haven't done much homework on this yet it was just an idea since we had the low meage turbo laying around. Kinda a test fail type of thing
Well the SS/TC has direct injection, so no SS/TC injectors. The stock SS/SC might flow enough but the connector is different.
There is a few stickies with all the information as far as building goes. The life of your engine with boost is hard to say, some have great luck and others well rebuild their engines with forged internals.

I figured I wouldn't be able to get a guesstimate on my engine's life. But I'm leaning towards 42# injectors because that seems to be most common. ultimately I want to know how I can gain access to tuning the setup. I work with a guy that has pulled all kinds of magic over the years but hasn't done much with 2.2's. If its a free tune I'm not going to complain, like I said I'm not looking for max power just some fuzzy feelings and a smile or two, he's even going to let me get my hands on what really goes in to tuning for boost. This is more so a learning experience for me rather than gaining the fastest times at the track.
i dont think you guys are understanding the deal im getting on this setup. i wouldnt just waste money on a light boost build but i cant pass this up. im getting a ton of parts from a buddy who works for saab, subaru, vw in indianapolis. (turbo, manifold, return lines, down pipe, and injectors) for next to nothing so why not play around a little bit? he's grabbing the injectors for me just because they're just laying around i still dont know if they're high impedence or low. Or if they're at all compatible but its worth finding out. My only concern at this point is finding a soruce to get access to tuning it. i can get a road/dyno tune for free from work but it doesnt seem that theres any way i can gain access to the ecu. this is what i really need some input on. worst case scenerio i just grab up a trifecta can. but im still unclear as to how that works also.
Please anyone who has boosted an 05 2.2 help !!

You have to go trifecta, its the only tuning software supported for your model year, it works like this, you buy said "canned" tune, tune and cable are shipped to you, install turbo kit, load tune, start car data log (dyno or road) send log files to Vince at trifecta (only guy that does tunes for trifecta) he makes adjustments sends new tune, load, log, send repeat till the tune is worked out (at Vince's discretion).
I'm talking about saab injectors I didn't know I was getting them when I first posted. I now know they won't work on the 2.2 lol sorry for the misconception but that tune makes sense now I was searching all over for how it worked ha. How much does that usually run for 2.2's?
Sorry. I meant to have a point on this. BUY A KIT. He spent almost as much as a kit. and it really wasn't worth the headache for a DIY. Custom charge pipes are super expensive. Also. Buy yourself some heat wrap and wrap all the exhaust parts down the the downpipe. the manifold and O2 housing get rediculously hot.
i already have both the intake and exhaust mani, turbo, oil and water lines, and dp. Spent next to nothing on them so i probably wont be spending much more than another 400-500 on tuning, intercooler and injectors. worst comes to worst i'll just resell the whole kit if i decide not to follow through with it.
I've talked to trifecta they gave me a basic understanding of how things work and seeing as thats my only option for spot on tuning that's what im going to go with, they also recommended i used 60's so for me to get the ball rolling here i have to find some 60's and an IC w/ piping or just fab up my own
