Auto Transmission Performance

Anyone have any suggestions about how to tweek and auto matic transmission to give me a little better performance...? I am not looking for any specific mods, just any and all suggestions. A dude from a local parts shop was saying to try a chip...While my uncle was saying to find something similar to what was used in his 73 RS Camaro...It basically allows you to drive it like a standard, and delays the initial shift. ANY and ALL suggestions will help...Thanks.

Can manually shift an automatic but its not very good for the transmission. I only do it once in a great while on the track

Yeah, that is how I finished off the tranny in my Contour back in the day. NOT GOOD AT ALL...I was looking for safe PERFORMANCE mods and solutions...I STILL can't figure out what the hell my uncle was talking about. He was saying his Camaro had like a Racing Transmission similar to standards, but you know, for auto. I KNOW he knows what he is talking about, he had one the nicest Camaros around...(This one was his 67)...It was yellow, and built for street drags...I just don't know what he means!?LOL! He has made several other hot rods since, and is a mechanic...I am lost.

An HPTuners tune can liven up an auto tranny, but it's not cheap unless you find someone who has it to do it for you.

You might also look into an auto tranny interceptor like here in this thread

tune. You can change shift points, shift firmness, etc. and your tranny will perform much better than stock with a tune. You can get a higher stall torque converter setup so you can launch harder which is probably what your uncle is talking about, but you wouldn't really want that unless you had some pretty heavy mods anyway, or it is kinda pointless.

Alright thanks dudes! I appreciate all the help. I was FORCED to buy an automatic, my wife went in on the car with me (she can't drive stick well). Anywho, worse then that, she wanted the 4 door. Which, the lot didn't even have a standard in the Sedans. So I now have a 4 door auto, which I am modding until next year when I pay it off and get my SC...I could REALLY use something to give my auto a LITTLE edge...I learned to race in a riced out Civic and a Lancer OZ Rally...Neither GREAT cars, but I miss the feel of racing a standard. Oh yeah, and my uncles 73 Ford Pickup With a bored out 397! HAHAHA!
