Jackass question, but since I've never hit the rev limiter.. or ever been in a car when it happened..
What exactly happens?
The max I've hit in my car is about 5k as well.
Not as much as my buddy though.

Alright, well he for sure wasn't close to the limiter then.
I can for sure say I've never hit it either.
I've gone to 5k-5.5k a few times.. so it must be around 6.5k.
My buddy said he went past 6.5k and didn't hit it, but who knows.

ive been beating the **** out of mine from 10000km and i have 64000km now and i havent had single problem and i take it the track a lot both drag and road course hell i find it drives better after u beat up on it
engine tranie... ever thrown a rod, a piston, or drop a valve. Not fun fixing. but you are talking 5K... I think the limiter on the car is 4k. *that could be the rev limiter I am thinking about* So, you don't think the GM engineers put thought into why they set it at 4K?? I am just sayin.... If you drive like a gramps.. your car will last a long time if nobody hits you. F-it... do what you want, man. I don't know what I am talking about. I am drunk.
are you trying to say the neutral/park rev limit is 4k? i hope so either way that's only on the auto and has nothing to do with being in gear. you're talking out your ass here and you don't know ****.
to the op as long as your bud is using the clutch and not power shifting at 5k the car'll be fine tranny and all.
Ok, so here is a simple equation:
higher RPMS = heat
heat = wear
wear = death
So.... will running the car at 5K at every acceleration blow up the car... no. Will it cause wear on the engine faster... yes. How much wear? Well that is impossible to tell and also depends on things like, what type of oil he is using and how often he is changing the oil. If the engine would have lasted to 300K he may have dropped the engine life to 200K by being so hard on it, but then again... it is impossible to really say. Oh, and like others have said as well... he is killing his gas mileage.
If he runs it like he does, he should use synthetic oil to help reduce the engine wear. Same goes for the tranny, plus he should change the tranny fluid pretty religiously as well as the oil.

When is the stock ls rev limiter supposed to hit? Because i just got my car and i can go up to 7k just fine. I was getting onto the freeway with my buddy about a week ago and i hit second gear and got it up to 6500 rpm before the shift light even popped on
Park/Stop Limiter is set at 4k
Driving Limiter is set at 6500
Trifecta Set Limiter is 7000
However, driving the car hard and "dumping the clutch" is bad, it causes more heat in the clutch assembly which starts glazing over the friction surfaces, puts additional strain on the linkages, puts strain on the syncros, etc. Heat is also generated more in the engine putting stain on the valvetrain, pistons, rods, crank shaft, etc.
So in summary:
Driving hard = Increased Engine Wear
Driving hard = Decreased Fuel Economy
Increased Engine Wear = Decreased Engine Life
Increased Engine Wear = Increased Cost of Maintenance
Decreased Engine Life + Increased Cost of Maintenance + Decreased Fuel Economy = Owner's Cost Increase
Owner's Cost Increase = Less Money In your Pocket
Less Money In your Pocket = Less money to use on gas, parts, etc and therefore lost enjoyability of said car.
So
Driving Hard = No Money for Fun

Any extra reving and hard driving will add a bit more wear to the drive train. But as long as you dont grind the gears, ride the clutch or poorly maintain the car it will not be that much more hard on it.
*******!
Lame come back. Don't bother to say anything if it's not entertaining.
This show's how un-informed you are. It's a movie quote from Idiocracy. You didn't get the punch line, loser. Watch the movie cause you are Frito! President Camacho is gonna put a cap in your ass, Bieatch!

what I am saying is the frequency... all the time = a bad thing. Really, if your young... tear the **** out of it. You'll get another car later on in life. But if you don't want to spend money, don't do it. That's an old age thing. Labor!

I'm all about ***** and asses, but think before posting.....
To the OP: It will cause some added wear and tear, but no major damage if nothing is done poorly (no grinding gears, riding clutch, etc) Still wouldn't do it ALL the time lol

It is still an inappropriate image for a thread not labeled NWS. If you have a professional job and your boss walked by and even if you were skimming through the thread on your lunch break, there'd be question. Grow up
Do yourself a favor and STFU. If you can't handle that, at least stop answering questions.
This forum doesn't need uneducated individuals such as yourself bringing down the collective IQ.
In short sit down, STFU, and read a book before you come back
Yup.
You sir, are an idiot, and have proven your lack of automotive knowledge here sufficiently

Lies! Trying to justify what you are doing.. I have to throw the B.S. flag.
If you all read the whole thread I agreed to other people. You would agree too if you read the whole thing. You guys are just looking for a fight. Grow up!

My thought exactly, but being the nice guy I am, I figured I'd give you the most constructive criticism you are likely to find. Reading your posts, I don't see you lasting for very long around here, so just keep on keepin on idiota. People like you are why it's so hard to new guys with good intentions to get accurate info.
Just a friendly heads up to my fellow css.net members. If you are taking automotive advice from this guy, save yourself some time, head over to ebay, load up on electric super-turbo's, turbo whistlers for you mufflers, and I think I heard something about a new way to port a head by hooking a bag of sand up to your intake, good luck. /sarcasm
now back to the thread o' FAIL this has become
