battery dies/ key stuck in ignition?
battery dies/ key stuck in ignition?
yesterday i was leaving the store and tried starting my car. when i got in the car my radar detector was still on, and when i turned the key to accesories the lights and radio still went on. went to start the car, everything turned off and there was a loud ticking sound. then i try to take the key out the ignition, it was stuck. when i tried to jump it i had to do it from the red terminal on the fuse box and ground on strut mount. still just made a loud ticking sound, but i got my keys out of the ignition. i left it for an hour then tried it again, and it fired right up. what could be the problem? im suspecting dead battery, but its still firing right up now. but when it does everything resets, like my clock and presets on radio. and every time my battery dies my keys get stuck in the ignition. can anyone help me out?

Um, I really cant offer anything about the battery but to unstick the key take apart your steering column cover(like 3-4 screws) and right next to the key insert on the ignition there should be a black button, use a ziptie or 2 and rig it around the steering shaft so they are on the button pressing it in. I remember seeing a how to on it on here but I dont feel like searching... Await Maven or someone more knowledgable for a response for your electrical issues...
I **think** this is the link you are talking about? I guess it's the same as always, mod at your own risk.
I do think its a slap in the face though..Usually people feel bad about draining the battery and to have the car eat your keys on ya? This has happened to me once (sad tears face) and my mothers cobalt and my fathers cobalt. Seems like it's a normal thing for when the battery dies (maybe it isn't, dunno).
How do the connections on hthe battery look? DO they needs to be brushed a bit? I think you should be able to use a multimeter to test if the battery is operating within normal spec or go to a parts store and see if they can do it for you.

how does the key look? it can be a security issue. the car may think its getting stolen for some reason. so it locks the key in there and then it just releases it when it stops acting retarted.
