BOOST BUG bites again
BOOST BUG bites again
So I built a turbo car and then got my cobalt for a daily. for the past 3 months I've been telling myself im going to throw some FI on it but the car has 15k and i really dont want to throw away my warranty. So today I'm sitting here at work and one of my friends come over and hes into the j body thing and shares some love with me. he has got a ecotec turbo kit that is CHEAP and said he wants to see what it will do on my car. He even said 20 bux a month is cool. (he's getting ready for his second child so i think it has to do with growing up or something) but so this is really tempting i just know from experience FI is rough on a motor that is not designed for it. this being my daily and i already have a 11 sec car im sorta stuck. I also know if its done in moderation it can be fun and last a long time. what do yo all think???

the kit is a hahn kit that has been modified to use a hks wastgate with the fmic, I shouldnt play with the cobalt but i dont think i can resist it. ive known my friend since he bought it and its never been installed, hes selling it to me for a grand he said he just wants to see it go on something. as for the neon its a 98rt 2.4l swapped bored and stroked to almost 2.7 all forged, heads been reworked msd dis 2, idle fpr and fmu 6an feed and return line for fuel, um driveshaft shop stage 5 axles, custom twin plate clutch too much to list man, all getting fed by a To4e 60 trim that has clipped exhaust wheel and ceramic bearing. you are pretty close to me maybe we can get a meet or something when the weather breaks, if i knew how to post pictures i would...

you will need to custom fab the downpipe to the cat. other than that it shouldnt be too rough of an install. the ecotec is reliable to 250hp on stock internals, rods go kaboom at 280hp.
i think everyone here wants you to do it, but its your decision in the end. after the install you might have to stick with only higher octane gas to keep the engine running smoothly, so it will be a little more costly to fill up once a week.

For a grand, I would say 100% go for it!
At that price, I think you would ultimately regret passing it up!
And if for nothing else, buy it for a grand, sell it to someone here for a slightly marked up price, and make them take pictures of the install and some after pics. That way, you have made some $$$, and your friend gets his wish to see it on a car!
But I would recommend keeping it and having a turbalt!
