Cat Delete

What kind of power gains can I expect with a Cold Air Intake, and what do you use to avoid a CEL?

Thanks

Although your topic says one thing, and your body says another, I got a Injen CAI from TTR (Vendor) got it in 2 days. READ THE INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE INSTALL! FOLLOW EVERY STEP. I have yet to pull a CEL and I installed it on saturday!

I haven't seen a lot of gains yet, cuz I'm breaking her in still, but usually you can get about 8-10 hp and tq (someone correct me if I'm wrong) and it is noticeably louder 2nd-4th and 5th, but still sounds like 5th gear, only amplified!

Oh, that I can't help you, lol!

It just says "Cat Delete" in topic, and then in your body, it says "What kind of power gains can I expect with a Cold Air Intake, and what do you use to avoid a CEL?"

Not to be an ass, but I don't see what kind of power gains can I expect with a CAI AND A CAT DELETE..................? I guess I didn't read it the way you wanted it to be read. Common mistake; no-one is perfect!

That's a stupid idea. You can make up to 400 hp with a full exhaust on these motors if done right. There is no point in getting rid of your cat and hense making your car illegal.

If you did infact remove it, you would probably pick up a few horse 3 - 4 I'd say tops.

Illegal depends on were you are, I know in alberta you can take it off and not be illegal, and never worry about failing emissions, because we dont test here.

Modern cats are not like the older ones, they don't really suck up that much power. in fact, i think that most cars, with the ECUs as they are would just try to correct when it doesn't see one and all you'll do is LOSE power.

Wont lose power. The second O2 sensor serves no fuel trimming purpose

well, following the laws of logic, if your exhaust flow is higher, you'll gain more power at higher RPM. i would guess if you're running right besides... maybe maybe MAYBE 3-5hp at peak.

I think I might just hack it off and straight pipe weld it. I'm getting a cat-back exhaust in two weeks, and i already have an intake, and combined with my header when i get it, it'll add up to a pretty free flowing exhaust

None. It won't help you any in your situation. It will be just loud.

Point blank, don't do it.

Straight piping is worthless in your situation as well.

Listen, if you want to do anything, while you're getting the cat-back setup, get an high flow catalytic converter to keep the same diameter going throughout your exhaust system. Getting rid of the cat won't do anything to help you in performance and might even cause a loss of power.

Losing power has more to do with exhaust flow and back pressure rather than fuel trimming.

This is really just not a good idea. You are going to cut it out and weld in a straight pipe just to see what might happen happen? uh, ok...

Squeezing every last bit of hp counts when you're running N/A

Just trying to figure out if running without a cat will benefit any gain over keeping it on

Sorry if it sounds like we're getting on you but we're just giving you a heads up before you do something that isn't worth your time or money.

If you want real n/a power, you're gonna have to tear into the motor.
