Check Engine light
Check Engine light
I have the '05 LS W/1SB pack, on friday when I was coming home from school, my check engine light came on...
I called up my local chevy dealer, and asked them if they could take a look at it, they told me to re-set the fuel cap and drive around for a mile or two and see if the light turns off... so I did nothing happened with the light, but I started to feel a big difference in the engine response.
Accelerating started to lag alot almost to the point of stall, when slowing down the motor started to shutter with the RPM's droping below 600, again as if to stall... So I took it in and lucky the bastard is covered by warranty, but they still have yet to figure out what the problem is... So far the diagnosis said engine miss-fire, they checked the spark plugs, distributor coil, and the starter and they didnt find any problems with them, they then said it might be something with the valves but arent sure yet, they will check tomorrow... In the mean time I gotta warranty covered rental untill its fixed (a base cobalt btw)...
Anyways long story short I am asking for the expertise of anyone who knows what the possible problem can be and shed some light on this problem (I know there are some mechanics here who have worked on the ecotec motor). Also this is the first major engine problem I have had with this car, and I know it is a very rugged and reliable motor.
So a side question is could my Weapon-R intake be the cause of this problem? I have had the intake running on there for about 4-5 months with no problems what so ever. But my dad seems to think that it is the cause, I am doubtfull. BTW I pulled off my intake and put on the stock air-box to not raise any possible warranty issues. I would'nt think that my intake would be the cause of this problem, but if it is may I have a faulty intake, which caused the problem? I just cleaned my air filter for the intake last week, and I had my friend help me who use to work for weapon-r to make sure I did it correctly... I didnt over oil it, I let it dry 2 hours between the cleaning solution, oiling, and rinse. So unless we missed a major step, it was'nt our human error.
Sorry that this has gotten to such a long post, just really any advice and comments about problems anyone has had with the check engine light are welcome.

intake is NOT the issue. I run a K&N Cod Air Intake and my car has been fine since October. I would have to say that a real fault with a factory part played a roll in the cars demise at this current time. The most common issue would be a fuel injector, the car sounds like it is not running on all cylinders.. The only thing I can *REALLY* think of is a loose electrical connection to a sensor and throwing everything off (since it's all computer based). It would be advised for them to check ALL sensor connections to ensure something didn't come loose going down the road.
Take it from me, I have had numerous problems with my SS the first year I had it, some of the more stupider problems was the fact that these plastic connectors weren't on right from the factory and would often slip off, my MAF sensor BEFORE I put my new intake on was half way sticking out of the stock intake tube (like someone was screwing with it before). The screws were there but like they weren't tightend.

wow, yeah sounds like the the old adage that little things that can cause the big problems. So Ill give em a call tomorrow during business hours and suggest they check connections... Could it something as simple as the MAF sensor on the intake?

Yes but does yours start to stutter like its about to stall?

Just take it in and let them run a diagnostic test on it.... I seriously doubt its the intake... These cars which I have found out have a lot of bugs... prolly just one of those... intakes are very common on all cars and haven't heard any problems with them!
just an update on my problem... Aparently this problem which I had is the first time it ever happened with this motor (thats what they told my Dad and I, I doubt it though) anyways, they said that my ECM needs to be replaced, for what reason I am not sure, but it seems to be a fairly odd problem that I would never have thought of.
Maybe I got a bad ECM part, but hey its warranty coverage so I dont mind much, cept that I wont have my car for another week.
