Exclamation clutch help/advise

Well while my car sits in the garage for the winter I better put ANOTHER new clutch in it. When I supercharged it I bought a exedy stage 2 clutch (3puck) I got lucky and while warranty work was being done the dealership put it in for me for free. Also put in a new oem flywheel and TOB. Well less then 20k later its slipping, I can stomp the gas in 5th going down the highway and it slips even then. Iv always driven manual cars put over 100k on clutches and never burnt one out. Also after I boosted I only went to the track twice and honestly beat on the car more with the stock clutch. Not sure if I actually have too much power for the stage 2, or if the 3 puck design just can't last with street use or if I have another issue going on. Either way what clutch are you guys running? Also with so little miles on my tobacco and flywheel do I need to replace them also again? Thanks chris

Ky Stage 3 drives almost stock held 15psi just fine out of a 57 trim. replace the TOB and atleast re-surface the flywheel.

What is this KY brand? Looked at it on the TTR website, sounds like a good deal why is it so cheap compared to the others and how long have they been around? This forum is getting pretty weak I remember 7 years ago when I joined id get a million replies now I can't even get people to tell me what clutch they would run

Although an LSJ I am simply running the GMPP clutch kit. Thus far it has be reliable with no slipping. Just don't get too aggressive with the cluch set up. There are differnt issues that will arise.
Definately replace the release bearing.

i have a fidanza flywheel and put in a clutchmasters fx300, i wanted to stay away from puck clutches since its a daily driver so its the next step down but still grabs fairly hard. mines held up amazing running 10-16psi depending on how i'm feeling.

As of pretty recently (past couple of years), Kentucky clutches have been well discussed and used with alot of the LNF/LSJ guys including myself. The thing about KY is that for some reson there seems to be alot of inconsistancies with the clutches. Some have nothing to say but great things about the clutch and others, well, not so much. Now the question is, were these "issues" actually real issues with the clutch itself, user error, installation error, not prepping the pressure plate and flywheel correctly before final install, or some combination there of? I sort of lean towards the latter of that list but that's just me, although I can't speak for every individual situation obviously. As for myself and another local LNF that I tuned, we are both running the KYS3 and it has held my 345whp/380wtrq (stock turbo e47) and his 410whp/380wtrq (EFR6758 pump gas) with no sweat so i'm sure it will hold up to what you plan on throwing at it with no issue.

A big complain that especially seems to arise with these clutches is chatter and howling. I will say that during the breakin process of the clutch it did in fact chatter and occasionally howl a bit but it was mainly when I would start from a dead stop on an incline. Quite honestly though, that is pretty normal for a 6 puck ceramic/kevlar disc with a heavy pressure plate. Mine fortunately stopped chattering and making any noise what-so ever after about 500-1000 miles and hasn't made a peep since. Have I just lucky with mine? Maybe, but I highly doubt that really.

So basic run down of the KYS3;

Pros: holds power great, stock pedal feel, great price

Cons: complaints of chatter and howling (although mine hasn't been an issue), occasional spongy pedal feel after hard pulls, the GMPP clutch seems to hold the power just as well

I hope this helps you out in your decision making a bit.
