i like the ss and all, i just dont like it when people jump all over the 2.2's saying they arnt anything compared to the SS and thats going to set alot of the fans of the 2.2 off.

in the end..... its a money race lol

No wants to hear their car is "nothing compared to so and so"

We all know the 2.2L has great potential.

well your just fueling it, i went to a cobalt meet sunday here and one of the guys has a silver 2.2 all done up, tinted windows, damn thing looks better than untouched SS's but that's just my 2 cents. I didn't buy the SS for the supercharger, i bought the SS for the appearance of it, i'm not much of an engine guy so i can't go off on S/C vs Turbo but we are on a cobalt forum, can't we all just get along

The SS is still the greatest performance deal going, sure we can drop 3 grand on a turbo to out run an SS, maybe. But if you dont want to wrap it around a tree we're going to spend another 3 grand on brakes and another 1 to 2 grand on rims. So right there I need to spend 8 grand just to get where the SS/SC starts out. Still no short throw shifter and performance tranny. Its almost cheaper to buy the ss/sc and then pull the blower for a turbo, **** u can get a 2.2 eco and drop that in with the turbo cheaper than spending 8 grand. The advantage we have is on our insurance. My ins. would have been 1,500 more per year if I bought the ss/sc, that is the only reason I'm driving an ls, and I still somewhat regret it. and yes I will end up dropping a fortune into this car by the time I am done thats just the way I am.

I'm not saying this to bash anyone. but if you think about it, for a daily driver, not weekend warrior $550 will get you 17PSI and roughly 250hp give or take. Thats cheaper than a turbo set up. Now I know 2.2's are cheaper than ss/sc BUT if you just look at performance money. To go from stock to 250hp to the wheels or so will be less money than for a 2.2 to do it. Of course the down fall is us SS/SC guys on average have a higher payment per month. It's two diff. directions for the same car.

Said it pretty much how it is!

This reminds me of the old "regular" focus vs. SVT focus arguments in my old forum. The standard focus guys would spend money, and beat an svt, then tell the svt guy how his car sucks. It's all immature. Point is you can do what you want to your 2.2, but it will never be an SS. You don't have to hate to hang out with us lol

i spent 20,000 for my SS loaded..... i think ill take my MUCH stronger internals, better suspension, supercharger(smaller pulleys), nicer wheels, nicer interior, stock kit, bigger exhaust and spoiler

Keep in mind a pulley to get the ss's to 15 psi is only around 100 bucks

Iv actully beat an SVT in my cobalt. (SRI. short shifter). so they really dont impress me that much. But as in the ss and the base coupes and sedans. I like the looks of the SS hence the reason if anybodys seen my base cobalt it looks like the SS. (front bumper. rear valence. spoiler. lowerd). I just didnt get the SS cuz of the 9-10K in price diffrence. I paid 12 for mine when an SS would of costed me 21-22K. And for turboing the car thats what i do plan on doing next year over the winter. So ill be happy if i could just hang w/ an SS S/C. but in the end either way you cut it. Its always a cobalt in the end.

As will I.

A turbo LS with no other mods will only beat an SS in a straight line. I'd rather be faster through the curves.

So what exactly are the numbers on a 2.2l with no other mods besides a turbo kit?

I'd rather buy an SS and not void a warranty on a brand new car, took that into consideration when I bought mine. Also, an SS just outlooks any 2.2l IMO

Getting back to the orignal topic... Sorry, guys but I have to do it....

I'm calling Bull ****.

Jiveturkeys account gives no pics. He provides no details as to what kit he installed. Doesn't say who his Cobalt SS friend is. And then, stopped posting after only one reply.

I don't doubt that a turbo charged Cobalt will be able to outperform a supercharged one. I just don't think Jiveturkey actually has one.

You may be right, hes not responding to any pm's about the type of turbo etc.

But i still believe a turbo 2.2 will blow an SS out of the water, just from my experience of test driving one.

I spent 18,000 and some change for a fully loaded ss/sc except the g/85 performance package......also going to get gm stage 2 upgrade when it comes out so my warranty should still be intact

This is geting outta control tho. You're comparing a stock SS/sc to a modded 2.2. Let me go put $3000 into my engine and see how fast my SS/sc is. So what if people spent less on the original car and are now faster than my car. How much your car costs should not really be a factor in "my car is faster". After all said and done, just think how much money youe spent OVER the oem value of the car.
