code with a dp?

alright guys i am seriously considering getting a header/dp combo. im debating between an aftermarket header/dp or just getting used parts from an ss/sc, but ill figure that part out when im ready to buy them.

anyways to the point of this thread... i heard that us 2.2 guys generally have to deal with our car throwing codes whenever we put a new dp on the car. however, in a thread i few days ago, i read that some guy had bought something so that his dp wouldnt throw a code. so my question is, how do you guys who have a header/dp combo deal with the codes that are thrown?

i have the lsj header with the lsj dp and catback, i have no codes, well thats a lie, i had no codes when i put it on, you shouldnt get any problems with either of them, i have a CEL right now cuz the cat is bad, and thats cuz my ICM messed up and i was running on 2 cylinders, than alot of gas was going down unburnt and what not, really f'd up the cat, long story short, dealer will only put the stock 2.2 on it, so i said f it...anyway i had it on a good 5000+ miles, never got a code from it

yea im leaning towards the lsj header and dp combo just because the gains between those and aftermarket ones are minimal (maybe 5 whp max). but im glad to hear that you havnt had codes with the two parts.

anyone else have any other comments on this though? the more the better

I have the extrude honed GMPP manifold and an SS/SC downpipe. My car has a CEL now, but the code reads something about the intake, not the exhaust system. Plus, the CEL comes and goes. It's off at the moment.

Well, like I said, mine comes and goes. But you can always buy a code reader that clears them as well. If nothing else, Autozone will do it for you.

gotcha. it would probably get to be a big hassle having to use a code reader everytime the dp throws a code though...

Not really. It just plugs into a spot under the dash by the steering wheel. One plug. Hooks right up, then you can see what code it is and it gives you the option of clearing it.

well if it is that easy i guess its not a big deal at all. ill have to look into aftermarket header/dp combos as well as a lsj combo. i wont be buying anything until spring time when it is actually warm out. but is there any truth to the AEM part that you can hook up somewhere on the car so that a code isnt thrown?

I've heard about a part, but unsure about it or if it's even by AEM. I'll have to let someone else take that question. But you may not want to do that, because there may always be another code thrown for another reason and you'd need to be alerted about it. You can't do that if you have something eliminating all codes.
