Well, that's good to know that it will fit if I were to get a 2.4L manifold.

I think I'll look into either the Injen or JDM CAI, and purchase one.

30-ish miles per gallon isn't enough - neither is my power level.

you seem a little confused. the 2.4 mani swap comes with an adapter to fit the 2.2 tb and therefore the intakes you're looking at purchasing will fit just fine. however; they will not fit onto the 2.4 tb as it is bigger and won't fit a 2.2 sized intake. not trying to confuse you more but this is something you should be aware of.

Oh, I gotchya. So if I wanted to put the 2.4L TB on there, the intakes wouldn't fit.

Hmm, at that point, I'd just sell the intake and get another.

I'm lookin at this JDM intake though - if it comes back into stock. So cheap, and just grab a K&N filter, and throw it on there.

Now what about water?

The problems really come from when you "recharge" the filter and use too much oil, and you don't have to recharge until about 50,000 miles.

Yeah, I don't have fogs at all.

So, 2.4L intakes...no place that sells new ones, I assume?
Crateengineepot.com and there very resonably priced

also i have a lsj manifold and d/p if your interested just pm me

if you dead set on the 2.4tb matched to the 2.4 mani on the 2.2 you will need to tune for airflow or you will kill your bottom end performance. the larger the opening the slower the air flow the less power the engine will make at low rpm. the tune will help but it won't regain all the torque you'll lose.

1. i thought the 2.4 tb was the same outer diameter it was just bored out basically..
2. only the 05-06 2.2s need the adapter plate for the tb, the 07+ will bolt up.
3. the swap kit is a rip-off, you can buy everything separately for much less. theres a thread on it i found and posted a couple times

got a local 2007 with the 2.4 mani and he needed the adapter so i'm going off that experience. i could be wrong on the 2.4 tb but you're better off safe then sorry. i say find a 2.4 and 2.2 and have em swap sri's and see if it works.

im positive the 2.4 will work w/ any 2.2 intake because one of the local 2.4 sedans has the jdm ebay intake, unless he modified the intake to fit. i know you can buy silicone reducers.. but it didn't look like he had one of those on there.

when i read up on the mani swap it said only 05-06 models need the plate. it said 2007+ model year 2.2s would bolt up. maybe they made a change shortly after the 2007s came out and some early 07s need the plate too.. i dunno. i need it either way.

So, do I need something to deal with water at all?

I guess not having fog lights will come in handy here.

Also, am I gonna need to take the bumper off?

no you wont have to take the bumper off. just start the car and turn the steering wheel all the way to the left, then remove the 3 bolts holding on the fenderwell cover then turn the steering wheel all the way to the right and you can remove the remaining bolts and pull the front lower part of the cover out and you have access to the area where the intake will go. if you go CAI i would get a hydro shield. if you go sri and fab a tube to direct air into the airbox, i'd say you probably dont need to worry about the water, as a tube feeding air to an sri isn't creating any suciton, just the force of the wind against the car will push air up the tube.

I'll probably go the CAI route, since it sounds like you get more power.

Then again, that JDM setup can be both, can't it?

yep but you dont get a heat shield as you would with most SRIs, you'd have to make your own (if you go SRI )

Ahh.

What power difference is there between the SRI and the CAI?

Sound difference?

i couldn't notice any from the butt dyno, but then again my sri has a heat shield/airbox i built from sheet aluminum and the tube down to the fog light void.. i cant tell a sound diff either, my exhaust is too loud. i think an sri would sound deeper though, just due to the fact it will resonate through the engine bay. if you didnt put on a heat shield or the tube, you'd probably lose 1-2whp over cai.. still probably not very noticeable

all in all once you're fully modded you might notice what.. .05 seconds diff on the 1/4 mile? try both and see what you like. im just saying IF you go SRI, make sure you get or make a heat shield, and get a ram-air hood, or make one, or do the tube thing like i did.

the k&n has a heat shield that comes with it....

pros:
more throttle response
louder
more low end power

cons:
sucks hot air from engine bay

CAI:

pros:
colder air
more top end power

cons:
less throttle response than a SRI (hardly noticeable)
quieter than SRI (hardly) but way louder than factory

there. get what you want.

A CAI with the thing that goes around the filter will be fine in winter, right?
