yeah we definitely need to figure out how big that inlet is on the JDM. Also, if i get a filter that is 8 in. tall, then there wont be any hydro shields that will fit those dimensions.

i also am kind of curious about that 2.4l intake manifold on the 2.2l. i searched all over the forum, but i havn't found anything that explains how is works. if someone could explain to me how its done, i would appreciate it.

There was a link posted earlier in this thread as to how to do the 2.4L intake manifold swap.

And yeah, I couldn't find a hydro-shield to fit over an 8" tall filter.

Even the 6" only had "Drycharger" "shields". Those are for Marine applications, would those work well here?

Hey I have a question. If i were to put a CAI on my car, would it void my warranty? Also my car is all stock and would I need to put a better flowing exhaust on first to make the CAI worth getting? thanks

no it would not void your warranty
yes the JDM intake has a 3" inlet, for sure. it does.
you would not NEED to put on a better flowing exhaust but you'll notice more gains if you do. but dont just put on a cat-back, do the whole thing. header, down pipe, hi-flow cat, and 2.5" catback.
i dont think they make a hydro-shield for anything bigger than 8" either, but you dont have to get 8", i just said i think thats what mine is. i dont need a hydro shield because mine is an SRI.
never tried or even seen a "drycharger shield".. this is what ive always seen:

any more questions?

I think a 6" filter should be fine. I just want it to stick too far down and not fit. I might fab up a box eventually to make sure all the air gets to the filter, but it'll have drain holes for water.

I just searched about the DryCharger, apparently it does it's job - really well. It repels water.

So, there we go. 6" K&N Filter, JDM CAI Intake, K&N DryCharger

And some heat wrap.

Only on the down pipe, I don't really want it visable.

Actually, they make a dry charger for both the 6" tall and 8" tall K&N filters.

Might just do the 8" filter and a drycharger.

Anyone have the JDM (or AEM) that can give me a measurement of how much room is below the end of the intake in the bumper?

that wont do you any good just on the down pipe. you need it on the section of the intake in the engine bay. that aluminum will heat up just as hot as the engine making the air a lot warmer. it will still be colder than stock but an aluminum heat wrap doesn't look that terrible and it will help keep the air much cooler. take it off for show if you want, or if money isnt an issue buy 2 intakes, wrap the top half of one and keep one unwrapped. if you're going to a show put the unwrapped one on, if you're going to the strip, put the wrapped one on. you dont have to change out the whole intake, just the portion from the tb to the bend at the fender.

Meh, yeah, I really don't care about the appearance for that car.

If it works, it works - it's just kind of pricy.

Hmm, looking at the design of the CAI, it looks like it points the filter forwards, somewhat.

Anyone have dimensions on the filter the AEM uses?

EDIT: Nevermind, I found it.

6.7" long
