yee thats it, if u do this make sure the top of the downpipe matchs up like pipe size and gasket and all match up. i blew a gasket on my aftermarket downpipe and the stock gasket was too big haha, but i got a better gasket problem solved haha
u should be able to bolt up no problem just check the specs and stuff

two cats? damn haha it should be fine it wont be as restrictive cuz the cat helps keep noise down haha thats why catless cars are freaking beast.
i have a 2.0l supercharged cobalt and im not familiar with the 2.2l motor but it should be similar as u will just be running a single cat and have better air flow
heres a pic of my vibrant downpipe and the lsj (stock) downpipe

You shouldnt need a tune. Just find a dp from an ss that is the same year as yours and there should be no issues. Everything should just bolt up just fine.

I just noticed your an 06 I would try and get a ss mani also.

The only reason the year matters is o2 sensor locations. If he does a mani and a dp it doesnt matter but if he only does a dp he should find one off an 06 so everything matches up.

I dont know about other years but my 07 has both sensors in the downpipe. I had to get a lsj exhaust manifold to match because the lsj dp has one bung for sensor.

This is correct...look into the positions of your O2 sensors! Also get a DP for the type tranny you have...auto tranny equipped Cobalts DPs are longer than the manual tranny equipped Cobalt DPs. If you want to insert a DP from a manual car into an auto car you'll have to do some fabrication.

This is on the 2.4L Cobalt...the 2.2 has the same issue:
