So I would look around and see if you can find a dealership that will do it for you.
You would definately have to upgrade those tires first though!
^^ You might be surprised actually how quickly those cars reach the govenor.
They are by no means on par with the SS/SC, but it was really easy in mine to hit the 100+ mark.
I only ever did it twice, but both times the car felt like it had more to give and just gets cut off.

I am just f-ing around. I don't like to hate on anyone for what they drive. To me if people could afford the ss/sc they would of gotten it. I would never make fun of someones financial situation so I apologize if you all took it that way.
Seriously just be happy you have a car that runs and runs well...... DONT TAKE YOUR GOVERNOR OFF......

It takes like 5 minutes for you guys to get there. You'll never need to go that fast anyways...
it takes 5 minutes with your grandmother driving maybe... with an open stretch of highway it gets up to 105 pretty quickly... i don't know about after that because it won't go any faster...
on a sepereate note, did anyone read in that paragraph from hypertech where it says that they have all sorts of different parts for your Cobalt car or PICKUP TRUCK??
i would never get anything from them, they obviously are full of ****
THANK YOU TO ALL THE 2.2 OWNERS WHO HAVE REPLIED,AND ORANGECOBALT IS RIGHT WHY ARE ALL YOU SS/SC GUYS EVEN RESPONDING TO MY QUESTION THE FORUM SAYS 2.2 NOT LETS TALK **** TO THE 2.2 OWNERS
Your just made cuz you spent to much on your ss/sc when I paid 10 grand less then most of you. Let me think what i can do with 10 grand and a base cobalt, HUMMMM smoke you dumb ss/sc drivers. Now stay out of our forum.
Any one with the right amount of money can make ANY car fast.
You could buy an 8,000.00 Kia Rio, dump 8,000.00 worth of mods into it and have a fast car.
The people on this forum who have purchased the SS/SC did so for a reason.
There isnt a single person here that didnt know when they were signing the papers that there was a base model available.
And really, if you want to make a comparible car, you are going to pay a lot. Sure you can get the power of the SS/SC pretty cheap, but it isnt so easy to upgrade to the suspension that we have.
I would estimate that if you were to do an aftermarket conversion to make the base cobalt all together better than the SS/SC you are going to be spending as much if not more than what you would of to just buy the car in the first place.
Second, this forum is about sharing information, and helping fellow CAR Enthusiasts. There are no rules stating that ONLY 2.2 guys can post in the 2.2 section.
Thats one of the great things about this forum is the ability to have intelligent and civil conversations with people of all levels of experiance.
So to the guy that said, only 2.2 owners should post in the 2.2 section,
Most of us are Cobalt owners and should stick together, and EVERYONE on this site is a fan of cars in general, and want to learn as much as they can.
So sit back, contribute to a topic, and enjoy the wealth of information that is available to you!

I don't think Primetime was aiming to mean that no SS/SC owners should be posting in this forum. He was probably just referring to all the comments he got on the first page where he was just being told to buy an SS/SC...
As far as everyone sharing info and getting along, I definately agree with you. However, it's up to everyone else to respect others on the forums and offer as much info as possible.
I also have a base balt and once the Turbos start being released, I hope to match or even surpass the stock SS/SC's hp/torque. Granted I will probably spend around the same amount or maybe slightly less in doing so, but I wasn't aware I would be in this financial status when I was buying my '05 model.
Bottom line, some of us didn't like the price tag on the SS/SC and some couldn't afford it at the time, but let's forget all that bullshit and continue to make some fast cars as there are plenty of Honda's for us all to eat!

Just buy an ss/sc....riiiiiight....like others have said...not everyone can afford one....primetime...just get better tires at least...rims and tires would be best and have chevy adjust for the speed rating. I think these forums will get interesting when the turbo kits for the 2.2 come out. Everyone should be happy that we all drive cobalts...at little rivarly is cool. If no one has check out the hahnracecraft site u should....the #'s for the turbo charged ecotec is amazing....granted they were performed on a cav....the #'s should stay close. "The standard rating for the Turbosystem is 235 Hp @ 8 PSI. We are confident that a stock weight, no options Ecotec J-body similarly equipped could run 12's at the standard boost level of 8 PSI and do it on 92-93 octane fuel. That makes the turbo Ecotec J-body a great performance value, faster than an SRT-4 for less money!"

Should make a base as quick as the ss if not quicker...my .02

The chevy dealer here won't reprogram anything other than "GM approved/pre-programed" things. They won't change my limiter even though I changed my wheels. Fear of being sued. If I knew someone that worked there things might be different, but I don't....at least not like that.

I see that thread in the 2.0L section growing and growing on the problems with the SS/SC. good buy, have like 100 extra hp at the wheels on a car that needs periodical fixing for $10,000 more.
All I know is I love my 2.2 auto, but would love to get that govaner out of there and not bog out at 105. I will be waiting for the chip replacement. Tell then new rems, and body kit will do. Along with exhaust, and waiting for turbo kit. Just appreciate what ya got tell ya think ya can do better. SS are sweet but if you put it side by side with the SL same body. Add the find and change the LS and you got a SS hehe j/k well with out the ing. :P
