i wouldn't suggest rigging your car to exceed your governor until you get some better tires. having a blowout at 110+ mph doesn't sound like fun to me. also, to everyone that is complaining about how the 2.2 is better because you can make it faster than an ss/sc with less money overall... that's wonderful and good for you! but i'm still content with keeping my warranty. if warranty is no big deal, than have fun modding your car, there's no need for everyone to throw stones. we're all here because of 1 simple reason... we all LOVE OUR CARS! let's get along. it's going to be interesting in the long run to see who makes it to 10's first... a 2.0, a 2.2, or a 2.4. that's where it gets tough, getting some really good times isn't all about hp, you're going to need to be able to put that power down with a great suspension... so i guess we'll have to see which car is a better starting platform.

dude, no offence to anyone, but you ss/sc guys that are just saying "if you want a faster car get the ss/sc" you know what? **** off... you all have mods in your sigs... well, if you want a faster car, get the new corvette... instead of your "slow" ss/sc... there's a time and a place for everything, but when someone is genuinely asking for help, if you have nothing to say, you should stay out of the conversation

and besides, if someone came into the 2.0 forum and told anyone looking for more power to get a different car, it would be a different tune...

"hes a canuck...look at the guage, its in km/h"

but also look at the mph on that guage..definately over 108...next time look a little closer before you assume someone doesnt know what they are talking about

it's at 120, which is the top speed if you get the upgraded tire and wheel package.

I don't know if getting rid of the governor would be the safest thing to do. You need to remember 105 is pretty fast, well over what you would trap at the drag.

The funny thing is I've got a base of a base model.. Hub caps and 15 inch steelies with Continental Tires....

I don't have any upgrades except AC and Auto.

Guess I'm lucky. and yes thats in Km/h not MPH.

In MPH I was doing about 121ish.

It would scare me to remove my governor....so I don't. I have 4 gears. I leave second and start third at 73mph. If this would hold true with the other two, I'd be going about 146-150 top speed. I don't want to do 150mph in an 05 Cavalier.

so hitting someone or something at 105mph is different then 115mph that he prob wont be able to get up to anyway. listen if your going to play at high speeds you really have to change your tires. reg cobalts just like my car are econoboxes. not sure about the cobalts but my car came with these shitty as eagles and they were really bad. tires, tires, tires and for removing the govenor is called the VSS Mod and can be researched. Jbody.org is usless when it comes to this topic though. They're a bunch of liberal canadian sissy boys

I did this on my 98 cav z-24.

It will comfuse the pcm and it will throw a CEL but it will clear after you switch it

back.

My ol cav would get to 108 fast in 4th gear, then id switch it off and keep on pulling.

have no idea how fars that car would go (not as fast as my SS/SC though...)

How ever, by doing this you are also cutting off your mileage counter...this my friend is illegal. And in the newer balts it doesn't throw a cel...but thats with my experience.

I've tried freezing the Kms. It can't be done without computer programming in these cars.

I thought about doing this, but I will not until I get better tires. My buddy got his reprogrammed and another buddy of mine has friends with GM so may go this route to just save me the trouble of cutting the VSS wire and putting a toggle in it.

I think that its because 5th gear is the "gas-saver" gear, same thing happens in my elantra, if i go to 5th, its like a brick wall

its because 5ht is a lower gear ratio if you at say 4000 rpm in 4ht youll be close to 3000 in 5th the car makes no power at 3000 rpm you would have to reach a speed high enought to put you into yourpower band in 5th which is deff over 120 my 4ht gear tops out at 120 if i go to 5th i can get 4 or 5 mph out of it before it cuts fuel

Its funny that these guys are laughing because a 2.2 once the compression is lowered to around 8.1.1 or 9.1.1 can tehn add the KB Blowzilla supercharger package and be pushing close o 250 - 300hp with stage one. Of course to do this safely you need to replace the wheels/tires, axles, preferrably get one of the Eibach pro comp suspensions, front and rear sway bars, Engalls Stiffy ENgine Dampner, and then of course the ever awaited for HPTuners tune kit. Total cost including purchase of car is somewhere around 19,900 and well thats much cheaper then the SS/SC for more pwoer and better track times Im sure. Now you say how do I know all this? Well I have an 07 LS and since I can already reprogramm my computer I am planning on starting my build sometime here in March or April of 07 so it will be ready for the summer.

Ok I'm staying out of the flame war but what I will tell you is DO NOT tamper with the cars
VSS. Altering the odometer is a federal crime and if your caught you can land in jail.
Just wait till HP Tuners can take it off the correct way. Also make sure you upgrade your tires, brakes and you may want to upgrade the susepnsion too.
