I don't think anyone was even fighting here...

The L61 definitely has more after market than the LSJ as far as engine components. Not fair

Well i seemed to have been the only person to grow some ***** and actually try to get the 2.2 's potential to grow by giving my car up for a month. You will see a lot more out of my car then just 212whp/224wtq. See i had the money for the SS, but not the credit history to back it up. So i had to go with the 2.2. Now that i can beat a slightly modded SS and keep up with a stock Evo, im pretty happy. although you will see 300+whp out of my car in a couple of months. Just saving my money to do it all at once. And honestly, all i would have to do to achieve 300whp is a new clutch(stage2+ most likely), diamond pistons, and an aluminum intake manifold. Change out my wastegate spring to a 15pound and im there. Though some tranny work will most likely need to be done.

There was some fighting. I removed the posts to keep the thread on topic.

You're right about the confusing between the L61 and LSJ parts. You have to really read everything to make sure you are using the right stuff. Especially since a lot of it is interchangable.

Even Comp Cams is apparently confused since they have a one cam for both engines, and that won't work!

I can only speak for my situation when I say that the 2.2 is a great starter for someone going to college. It costs less than the 2.0 and it has similar potential in the aftermarket when I have enough money saved up for a little splurge. When tuning comes out, I'll probably be less hesitant to add internals to the mix. In the meantime, I enjoy the looks and feel of the car.

NJHK had a good point about people spending money on a higher platform because it already has more performance built into the car. With tuning already available for SS models, they can add all sorts of crazy mods that leave any built 2.2 in the dust. When tuning comes out, they'll all have a lot of potential for speed. Until that happens, people who buy the Cobalt to mod it will likely buy either SS model and work on building it immediately. At least that's what I think.

The build I posted is really similar to what I'm doing to my LSJ right now, thats where I came up with most of it.

The interchangability(sp?) gives a nice variety in whats available. Normally, head gasket thickness would be a one time deal for an engine that doesn't have real good aftermarket support yet. However, one engine's is one thickness, the other is thicker, which gives a nice choice. Just using that as one example where initial confusion ends up being a blessing.

I guess I'm hoping to light a fire under some asses and see more truly technical threads like this out there, in this section at least. In the past 2 weeks, I've located some parts that I've never even seen mentioned about being available or compatible with the L61. Each time I think, "Heh, wonder why no one has used these yet?" Speaking of, time to find a new place on my bulletin board for my just arrived Supertech sticker...wonder what else is in this box.

Some questions I had on 2.0/2.2 interchangability

Since lsj and l61 have same bore is the bore spacing the same?

Will a 2.2 crank fit in a 2.0 bottom end? I know the reluctor ring is diff but i imagine that can be changed.

From there you could use a 2.2 forged rod and piston combo and have it tuck up nicely in the lsj correct?

Not sure about the first couple, but a 2.2 forged rod and piston combo will bolt onto the LSJ crank.

Complete LSJ and L61 rotating assemblies, meaning the crank, rods, and pistons, can be swapped into either block. There is a special GMPP piston set that allows the use of the LSJ rods on a L61 crank and block. This is a good example of the potentially confusing interchangability.

I just hope the reluctor ring will swap easily
