Making A Custom Turbo Kit.

One thing I don't seem to understand is that lets say you get a garret turbo with diffrent piping with a different intercooler. Your switching alot of companies products with each other...so how do you know what can fit what and is their an extensive amount of fabricating to be done when doing a custom kit?

it really isn't that hard. I'm in the process of doing it. and as for running the piping, you can usually find turbo kits that are being parted out and just buy those parts. I'm in the process of buying piping kit from a turbo kit right now. Its all ready cut and fit to the cobalt, so all i need to do is piece it together.

mixing the parts isn't usually a problem because most turbo parts are universal. The turbo will fit on any manifold as long as it has the proper flange, internally wastegated or external. Oil lines sometimes need to be turbo specific. but piping, bov's, intercoolers, ect are universal.

custom kits are pretty fun, you get to use wat you like and feel comfortable with. but its a pain in the ass if you forget somethin or somethin just isnt quite right. but either way have fun. by the way, if you never turboed a cobalt download the garrett instructions, very useful

well alot of people have issues hitting the STB however... due to a frame brace actually attached to the firewall STB's arent really all that useful.. ALSO you can route the piping under the engine as well and not have to worry about it

this can also preserve a more stock outward appearance... (check B_faulks build) so i tlooks like you just have a CAI on the wrong side lol

I have a small intercooler (universal) and some 2 1/4" piping for sale if your intrested. It might be good for your low boost setup. you may need to purchase a few extra piping pieces but it would def. get you started. I'd only ask like 80-90 bucks + shipping. and i'll throw in a brand new ebay bov lol...

7-8 lbs on what turbo? 7-8 on a TDK will blow your engine and wont kick in til 5k rpm, 7-8 on a 14G would be perfect for about 50-70 hp.

https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/2-2l-l61-performance-tech-45/bfaulk-goes-turbo-wait-over-pics-inside-166722/ Here's a link to my build, i did everything custom, basically i got a turbo, then built the entire kit around the turbo. If you are that worried about intercooler piping, i would say skip it and get a kit, cause there is a fair amount of fabrication required to make this work, especially if you want it to last for any length of time... FYI ,the exhaust was the the worst part of my install.
