not if you have to cut off the stock pipe. if you had say a corsa cat-vack you could just not bolt up the muffler.
.....damn you beat me to it.

Don't do a muffler delete...if you want the "louder" sound, get a cat-back or just a straight through stainless muffler. Most muffler shops carry them in stock...at least around here. I did that on my ss/sc and it actually sounds better than the gmpp exhaust imo. but, it's your call bro
How To: Muffler Delete
Tools Needed:
(1) Hacksaw
(2) Exhaust clamps
(1) 48-72" Piece of strait pipe
(1) Huge Exhaust tip (if desired)
1. Raise the back of the car.
2. Read directions from google on how to use a hacksaw (if needed) .
3. Take the hacksaw and cut though the exhaust pipe just in front of the muffler. NOTE: if the cut is not COMPLETELY STRAIT.............................who gives a ****.
4. Slip one of the exhaust clamps over the end of the strait pipe.
5. Take the strait pipe and line it up with the rest of the exhaust, making sure the the ends overlap.
6. Tighten the exaust clamp.
7. In the same manner that you install the strait pipe, install the exhaust tip on the tail end of the strait pipe, using the other exaust clamp,
8. Test the muffler delete mod by starting the car and reving the engine to 6500 RPM three or four times.
9. If the turbocharged weedwacker sound doesn't **** your girlfriend off, ENJOY that AWESOME sound.
PROS: People Know your coming from a mile away, 0.05% increase in gas mileage and performence
CONS: May **** off girlfriend, may cause hearing loss, may result in a noise violation

if you want a good sound. I have a muffler that makes my car sound like the GMPP touring exhaust. its a turbo thrush muffler , cheapest 2.5 inlet and 2.5 outlet muff they had , 34.99 , sounds amazing . BTW WHO THE **** SPENDS 100 AT A MUFF SHOP FOR A WELD? I just got this muff , tailpipe and tip welded on for 40$ and that was expensive as **** shouldnt have been more than 20$ 10$ for the weld ,which takes all of 3 minutes. and 10 for the tip and pipe.

go to oreilly's tell em you need a muff for a cobalt. ask for the THRUSH( you know the brand with the woodpecker on it?) "turbo muffler with 2.5 inlet and 2.5 outlet and grab an adapter for 2 1/8-2.5 or 2.0-2.5 I cant remember. then go to a place like "custom muffler" or any cheap autoshop around just make sure they are are reputable , call around get prices for how much they charge to weld.
probably will spend around 100-75 bux all together.
huuuuuh? i thought everyone had oreilly's........... maybe autozone? oreilly's is the only place that I went because they carry walker and magnaflow (thrush and magnaflow are owned by the same company(walker).
ide just order one offline if you can.
O'reileys is a place kinda like autozone or advance auto parts. You'll spend just as much doing it that way as doing what i said and hittin up a muffler shop and getting a straight thru stainless muffler. Don't get one of those rediculously raspy civic fart cans tho, make sure it's a straight thru and not a "performance" muffler. If you have a doubt ask them to clamp it on before they weld it and let you start your car so you can see how it sounds.
Not worth it. Invest in a exhaust system.
I ended up buying a Pacesetter exhaust system...got bored with that then replaced the resonator with a 18" resonator and the muffler with a Flowmaster...sexiness.

just go and buy a HKS Hi power universal muffler with a 120mm tip. thats roughly 4.7 inches it will fit. Roughly $250 off ebay. Then get a catless dp ($100-$150) and do 2.5 piping to the muffler its loud as can be but still sounds good.
