if you are asking us this question, then you my friend need to go and read. Research, and you will then know the answer.
I ran a 75 shot no problems. but please go to the nitrous section and read.

Nitrous works great when used great, and works bad when used bad. You must have a 100% working kit, and have it at optimal bottle pressure at all times when you use it. Also, make sure you study what RPM it is safe to engage it, otherwise the backfire will blow off a lot of things and cause fire damage.
I use it, I like it, it's not 100% safe but you can make it 95% safe I'd say. Nitrous itself isn't dangerous, it's the malfunctions that are dangerous.
I use a 175 shot on my Mustang.

plan and simple a stock 2.2 cant handle anythin more that a 75 wet shot and maybe a 35 dry shot. im not sure that the maf can comp for the 35 dry or not thou so stick with wet. well there has been a member that has pulled off a 90 wet shot for the longest time and never had a problem but 75 is the safe spot.

the way I see it man,(Im planning on using it) it's not somehting you want to half ass and find a used kit. I would spend the exra buck on this one, making sure every piece of the kit is in prime condition. If you look up on youtube cobalt on nitrous, you'll see a white balt running a 14.6 yet his backfired ( you dont want that

his back fire was from tryin to spray off the line and the engine bogged. sprayin off the line has always been a no no. but yea if you use it wisely and dont get to stupid with it then it can be fun and a great power adder.

im guna go with a 35 wet shot from sniper (NOS) I hope this is safe im getting a full kit and getting it professionally installed. here is some scoops for the guys that whack it to research.
1. a stock cobalt can handle 75 shot nos
2. dry shot is more danegrous then wet shot
3. If installed correctly, it works great
4. best used when at wide open throttle above 2500 RPM
5. looks totally badass in your trunk
6. more pudy tang from girls that have seen fast and the furious
there is the research. and i spend hours on it. i am doing a 35 shot kit. if anyone disagrees with my decision. let me know. im doing it unless otherwise.
i hope i can pass inspection in PA any pittsburgh balts out there?

another unresearched nitrous thread...
if anyone tells you its not safe, its just as safe as ANY other mod you put on this car. This can be just as safe or just as dangerous as simply changing pullies. if its not done right or not tuned right, it can be bad. Do research first, and get it tuned when your done. Dont let anyone on here tell you its not safe, the reason peopel think its not safe is only the fault of the operator.
your points:
4) you should never spray in 1st or 5th gear, below 4k rpm.
5) unless the cops see it. keep the line disconnected unless you plan on racing. you have to go to youre trunk to turn the bottle on anyway, might as well leave the line undone so you dont get in trouble for it bein hooked up.
6) lol, yeah right....

Ive ran a 100 shot wet kit on my stock 2.2 with full boltons.. window switch was set at 3200rpms never had any problems after 9 bottles.. just use common sense when operating and it will be fine

Normally I would disagree with this, but on a FI car like Cobalts, I agree.
The stuff Im gonna say is general safety rules so some might not apply to a Cobalt if the Cobalt is good in that category.
1. Upgrade fuel pump.
2. Get spark plugs with a colder range and gap them more aggressive.
3. Don't use Platinum spark plugs. Iridium plugs are fine, but personally feel coppers are best.
4. Make sure your internals are good for it (Im sure they're for Cobalts)
5. If you're kit doesn't have a WOT (Wide Open Throttle) switch, get one.
6. Buy a window switch so you don't activate too low and cause pooling and so you don't put stress on your engine at lower rpms.
7. Not safety, but if you check your plugs regularly like you should after every 10 or 20 pounds, don't use octane booster. It might raise your octane, but it'll make reading your plugs a bitch since it'll have orange soot on them.

My car...you have the wrong story...sorry. It was a window switch malfuction that made the nitrous start injecting before I even hit the gas. As soon as I did...there was fuel puddling in the intake manifold which caused the boom.
What funny is it even says on the "more info" for the video what happened...guess no one reads that.
That I did...the build project can be found in my signature.
On another note, that video hit over 500,000 views recently.
