oil leaking
Well iv noticed right behind the oil filter there is fresh spot of oil..when I bought the car I cleaned the engine bay, for this purpose. So I can see any new leaks. This.started about a week or so ago and the oil level was about half and also started to noticing a little white smoke out the exhaust..plus taking the oil cap off there was little smoke coming out. So i added a quart of oil and checked the oil level everyday since then..nothing has changed. ,but I am still seeing oil that is coming out...but don't know where..like right behind the oil filter on the bottom of the block there are these two holes and looks like its filled with oil..can you plz help..thanks

Ok..its not much coming out so its hard to tell..if its really white or grey..so if I'm burning water..where from. I am about to change.my oil soon. So I Will clean the area make sure the seal is on properly and see what happens. I did add a quart of oil plus some of Lucas engine stop oil in there to see..since adding the oil I can tell a better difference lol if that makes sense.
Thx for the advice

if your meaning the small valleys right behind the oil filter cap, that's is residue/mess from when you changed the oil. If your not loosing oil there wont be a problem. EVERY car i've done any work to will have the fog coming out of the engine at the oil cap and also at the oil filter when you have the caps removed, it is normal. As for the "white smoke" MikeJ was right, it should only be water, oil smoke is blue, coolant smoke is thick and white like a smoke screen and if it doesn't have a smell don't worry about it. If it's just thin and white it'll be water from the moisture in the air.
Also, the oil filter gasket should only be changed every oil change if it is not the green oem one, which is silicon and good for the "life of the vehicle" orin my experience about 100k miles. Replace it when it's no longer round, it'll become flat and hard and will not seal the cap anymore.

ok great thanks guys for the fast responses, this does help out a lot..i just noticed the two little valleys as you call them filled with oil..but just never really noticed it before..i will do another engine clean and see if it happens again and will put an update up here..Im 89 gas with high flow cat and a DC sport muffler..it has a smell but not oil smell..it seems like i might be running rich..don't know, but i am going to take it to my shop and have them look and see, plus i made a stupid purchase of the wrong cat =( i got a 2.25 dummy me didn't check the application..but i do have a zzp 2.5 dp with the right cat to go on.

i ran full synthetic motor oil in my car and it caused a oil leak out of the oil pan gasket so i went to the dealership to get a gasket and they say it takes a special sealer instead so now i haft to take the oil pan off and redo it this is going to suck

IN a 'balt? Synthetic oil will not cause and oil pan leak. shitty factory build and time, or using too much oil will though. And yes, the sealant is called GMS and if you use it right, the oil pan will never even seep again.
