oil scraper = 30hp?

some engineer dude was telling me that an oil scraper and some wind thingy would give me 30 hp for only like 100 bucks, he said it was way better than getting a header, ect.. Just wonding if he was full of it?

Look at the build book, if you find a place to locate a scraper in the block, more power to ya!

That is an old HOTROD trick used very succesfully on V8 racing engines.

yeah the crank shaft, he said if you get more oil out of there it consumes less power and therefore gives the car more power

Well, honestely I don't know what a scraper does... But he is probably talking about windage. When the crank goes through the oil it gets resistance on it. (kinda like moving your hand under water) Which in turn lowers horsepower.....

he said when the crank spins it sprays oil all over like you said hand in the water, with the scraper it draws the oil down into the pan so you get less resistance. He claimed 30hp gains for less than 100 bucks.

The lower crankcase bedplate on the ECOTEC basically does the same thing as a windage tray. It helps to keep oil from the oil pan from getting onto the crankshaft (preventing that power-robbing "egg-beater" effect) It also acts to "scape" oil off the rotating crankshaft, returning it to the pan.

30HP used to be the published gains from adding a windage tray to a big block Dodge

Well, like Rob said, it would probably be hard to get something else in the oilpan/lower block. Plus, I doubt it would give you a 30hp increase anyway on a 4 cyl. Save your money and get one of the performance kits that are out.

Personally, Crank Scrapers will work... They will not make 30 HP... More like 2...

I would not want to run the risk of something getting into my crank and shredding itself all over the inside of my engine..
