pistons

ok quick question on the pistons if I go over sized bore will there be anything I have to do to the engine? and will the cobalt ss pistons with the same bore size work on the 2.2? and what compression is better 10.0:1 or 10.5:1?

yes, you will have to bore the cylinders if you go with bigger pistons. If i'm not mistaken the compression ratio for the ss supercharged is 9.5.1, the 2.4ss is 10.5.1 and the 2.2l is 10.1.1. (not 100% sure, but someone will correct me) I do not believe the ss pistons will go right in the 2.2L

LSJ - 9.5:1
LE5 - 10.4:1
L61 - 9.5:1 or 10:1 depending on application (Cobalts are 10:1)

Depends on what you want to do to your car. If you want an n/a build a higher compression is better. If you want to go turbo or supercharged, a lower one is easier to tune for and you can throw more boost at it.

You will need SPECIFIC pistons for the 2.2L; The 2.0L cobalt SS/SC pistons WILL NOT work on the 2.2L (Whirst pins are larger on the 2.0L and will not connect to your rods)

We carry Wiseco Forged pistons for the 2.2L ecotec @ www.TurboTechRacing.com

I would stay with a stock C/R of 10:1. Why bore it over if there is no damage to the stock cylinder walls? OEM bore should be just fine.

PM us with questions.

why bore?

boring will add displacement and ups the c/r a lil (c/r goes up too: i heard from guys who build drag car motors for a living)

ones guess is as good as anothers

for mine i am shooting for 225whp 225wtq on (probably) 11.0:1 (myabe 12.0:1), .20 over pistons, stage 2 comp cams, injen cai, jbp vortex header, 3" catless exhaust, 32lb injectors, tune. stg 3 clutch and liteweight flywheel, stage 2 axles, slicks. prothane mounts, ingalls etd and few other misc. mods for the 1-2 extra hp lol. MAYBE: a 2.4 LE5 intake mani, small head job, ignition??? <(unsure what i can do with that but i want to upgrade)

(also supertech v/s/r good for the 8100rpms and eagle crank n rods)

all in all im not sure with what youre planning on going with. i mean if u up the c/r to 10.5 you might as well go to 11.0 or 11.5 cuz ull have to run premium gas anyway (from what i heard) and im not sure if youre gonna bore or not and you dont list any other mods that youll have. but say you get the LSJ full exhaust and do a 10.5:1 with stock bore and intake id say youd pull bout the same numbers as a 2.4 but most likely between 155-170whp ish (just my best guess)

right now i am putting down 167whp and 174wtq and i got injen cai, full exhaust, spec stg3 clutch, fidanza 7lb fly, prothane mounts, ingalls etd, and tune. so with my build im trying to pull an extra 60whp and 50wtq (which should be easily done with what i am doing, just i want to get the lowest c/r pistons to acheive those numbers)

just a question about your build. Do you need the stg 3 clutch? isnt that a bit of overkill?

Yeah it is. I wouldnt go higher then a Stage 1 or 2 clutch for an NA build. Your not going to be making that much torque to warrant anything higher then that.

Good point thats a pretty good deal. My Centerforce clutch is costing me $600 to my door. But it will take more torque then the SPEC 3+ so its worth the money.

oh yea, definately is. when i bought the fly i came across the clutch and was like "WOW what a LOW price" lol so i bought it. i wish i had a centerforce but im not gonna need that much of a clutch like you. altho i may spray 150 wet or a 75+75 dual stage or something (only at the track). i pretty much figured if id ever go crazy n build it up more i have a clutch that can handle it and dont need a new

u know how much hp the eagle rods hold? i thot and heard 600 and what bout wiseco pistons?

I've seen two different numbers for the H-beams, 700 and 750. wiseco's are good for 800hp. You can increase that number a bit by getting them coated.

so say i wanna spray at the track, what would be the most shot? (just say my car makes 250chp) could i run a 250 shot? or would the sudden increase of that much more power still snap the rods or maybe do something to the pistons?

I AM NOT GOING TO ATTEMPT TO RUN A 250 SHOT OF N2O lol just so you know, im just curious as to how n2o affects the claimed max numbers cuz of the instant power gain, but i may try to run like a dual stage 75+75 so 150 shot in the end but idk yet, maybe just a 100 shot and be done
