I looked around not sure where I found it but a rear drum->disc conversion is like $1,200 I think.

When I saw the post title, I thought: why would anyone want to convert the rear to drums?

Seriously, it's probably not worth the effort. Get good front rotors and front pads (I like Powerslot rotors, and I'm about to try EBC Redstuff pads).

Ya i know its a pain in the ass and very expensive to convert and the rear only gives u like 10% of the breaking (so i hear) but it looks sooo much nicer than those drums

But still if anyone knows where i can get them lets say under 800 then i may still consider it

the only possible way to get them for that price is to use OEM used parts

SSBC is the only company that makes a rear disc conversion and it is $1200

you would have to swap over the break assembly from a Cobalt with rear discs which pretty much means you're converting to 5 lug...which is gonna require a swap for the fronts as well.

which also means new wheels.

I have heard that a rear disc swap from an SC2 is possible since they are 4x100 as well but theres some fabricating involved.

lol I thought the same thing. But I agree with you Lewi... Good front rotors and pads should do just fine. Its not worth the effort and the $1200. Maybe wait awhile and the price may go down?

SSBC has a specific kit. Wilwood has setups that work, just not a Cobalt specific "kit". I think Baer does the same thing.

Now the question is...whats better? Stock SS rear and front breaks or cross slotted rotors in the front of the LT and the drum breaks in the back....is there a big difference between the two?

If your living in Toronto its not worth it, rear rotors rot out too quickly around here, its one of the main reason GM still uses rear drums.

If you want to use SS stuff you have to change out all the spindles to start, then you need proportioning valves, flex lines, stands and finally the rotors and calipers... Its gonna be big $$$ b/c no one has wrecked an SS in the area.
