Well you know you don't need to pull the head to replace the springs

its a supportimg mod, usually to allow you to rev higher than the stock valve springs allow. you wont feel they're there, but you'll be able to rev higher

Stock Valve springs are good to alittle less than 7500RPM's but the only way you'll benefit is if you get after market cams... The power curve starts to drop after 6500, on stock tune and internals.. so at 7500RPM's your not building any power..

just FYI, the valvetrain is the same between the L61, LE5, and LSJ (and i believe LNF as well) excluding the valves themselves. Anything an LSJ can rev to, an L61 can too

right, i rev out to 7.2k right now on stock springs and valves (stg 2 cams)

i need to replace my springs and such, just havent gotten around to it.
If you have never times an engine before I would suggest leaving the head ON and using an air compressor to hold the valves in place while you switch springs, shouldnt really be that hard actually
cause if you havent timed, and dont get it right, say bye bye to valve train believe...ive done it!!!

and ya, head work (not port and polish or anything) is fairly cheap, i got my head shaved .020" and hot tanked for 65$ at the same shop that built the head for the SSC supercar

If you do not have cams or anythign i would not worry about doing this and if you do the cams just do it at the same time.

come to think of it, youll have to retime anyway cause yoll have to take the cams out to do this...not impossible in the car, done it a few times, but worth it to just pull the engine, pop the head, do your cams, vavles, springs, retainers, seats, do any head adjusment (shave or what not) hot tank and get some nice ARP head studs as youll end up replacing the studs cause they are NOT reusable...neither is the cam gear...and everythign has to be tq'd to spec

basically if you dont know what your doing do not learn to turn wrenches by doing this...you can totally kill your engine...and im not kidding with that. start small and do this when actually needed.....

well i guess it takes a special valve spring compressor or somethin. but $100 isnt bad considering it went thru the tank and what not and is sparkly lol
